Colby Covington has successfully earned himself another shot at Welterweight gold after beating his rival, Jorge Masvidal. However, to win the gold would be no straightforward task. He will be facing off against the current Welterweight champion, Leon Edwards, for the strap. Edwards is the man who’s beaten Covington’s ‘nightmare’ in Kamaru Usman. And we all know that MMA math doesn’t work but, it would undoubtedly give the former interim champ some pressure. Also talking about pressure, the stakes are high for Covington as this might be his last shot at welterweight gold. Not adding the fact that Donald Trump will be in attendance for the event. Keeping the circumstances in mind, Michael Bisping gives his take on Covington’s situation.

UFC Welterweight title contender, Colby ‘Chaos’ Covington, is well known for his antics outside the cage and his persistent pressure style of fighting inside the cage. Covington has had quite a career in the UFC. From being one of the most controversial fighters in the UFC to becoming an interim UFC Welterweight champ, Covington has now proved his mettle. Covington also fought Kamaru Usman for the Welterweight strap twice and was regarded as the only fighter other than Leon Edwards to give Usman an actual challenge inside the octagon. Luckily, Covington has gotten one more shot at the UFC Welterweight strap.

Michael Bisping shares his take on Covington’s title shot.

In a recent video on Bisping’s YouTube channel, the former Middleweight champion, Michael Bisping started off by giving the reason why Covington isn’t messing around as much by stating, “He is deep in camp working his ass off because the pressure’s on.”

‘The Count’ then explained why this title shot is so much more important than the other ones for Colby Covington. He claimed, “We always want to win fights, we want to become the champion of the world. Certainly, when this is by far the last chance you’re going to get.”

He concluded by giving one more reason why there’s more pressure on Covington by stating, “His No.1 guy, Donald J Trump is going to be in the building. So the pressure’s mounting, the pressure’s on and of course, he wants to become a champion over everything else.”

Michael Bisping and Colby Covington did have a history in the past. This might be part of the reason for Bisping not being happy about Covington getting three title shots in a short span of time. However, Bisping isn’t wrong. If Covington is unable to secure the belt this time, it’s very unlikely he’ll get a fourth try any sooner.

It is almost certain for Donald Trump to be in attendance for UFC 296 as he promised to be cage side when Covington squares off against Edwards for the UFC Welterweight Championship.

Covington has claimed plenty of times that he would wrap the strap around Trump’s waist when he wins the Welterweight gold. But in order to do that, He has to take it from Leon Edwards. Which, keep in mind, won’t be an easy task. Edwards has proved himself to be the most well-rounded fighter in the division. Not to mention his 11-fight win streak in the division.
