A person finds out who their real friends are when they are going through bad times. And if that is true, Dana White and Donald Trump are true friends. While Trump may be one of the most controversial and polarizing people in America at the moment, there is one island where he is almost universally popular: Dana White-led UFC. But why is the duo such good friends? Well, their friendship began two decades ago, when the real-estate mogul helped put on a UFC card at his Trump Taj Mahal when the promotion was fighting for its survival.

Since then, their friendship has only grown stronger, with White being one of the strongest, most outspoken supporters of Trump to this day. And the feeling is mutual, it seems. The UFC boss, on a recent podcast appearance, revealed that the former President is so good a friend that he helped White get through a difficult phase of his life.

In a recent interview with Randall Kaplan on YouTube, Dana White waxed eloquently about the type of person Trump is, which was contrary to his public image among many, even his supporters. White, of course, as part of his support for Trump, gave a (passionate and bombastic) speech for Trump at the Republican National Convention when officially nominated as the Republican nominee back in 2016.

During a particularly fraught time in his life, according to the Power Slap founder, the former president used to call the Boston native often to make sure he and his family were doing well, so strong was their bond. The Las Vegas resident, as fans will remember, was caught on camera scuffling with his wife, Anne White, on New Year’s Eve two years ago. And Trump, according to White, was so concerned amid this controversy that he would call thrice a week to enquire about White and his family’s well-being.

“Donald Trump has been an incredible f***ing friend to me for 20 years… When me and my wife went through what we went through two New Year’s eves ago, he called me three f***ing times a week for two weeks, making sure I was okay and making sure she was okay, you know, how the kids [were doing],” he said.

The UFC CEO also felt that the public was presented with a caricatured image of Donald Trump, which was very far from the Donald Trump that he loved and cherished, ascribing it to the 77-year-old’s political opponents.

White defends Trump amid criticism

White presented a passionate defense of Trump’s character and who he is as a person in the interview. Like a loyal friend, he rubbished the countless controversies the real estate mogul has found himself in ever since he launched his political career back in 2015 as being down to simply politics. White, even in the face of the negative press it has garnered him, has continued to be in the New Yorker’s corner, and told Kaplan that most of the negative press about Trump was unfairly biased and motivated by putting his dear friend and his character down, whom he described as a “good human”.

“That’s who f***ing Donald Trump is. All the other [stuff], you know, all the other politics is a dirty f***ing business, man… This guy is a good friend, he’s a good human. All the other [stuff], you know, all the other politics is a dirty f***ing business, man… This guy is a good friend, he’s a good human. After he won the election he asked me and my wife to come out and have dinner with him we sat with for four hours talking about everything,” claimed Dana White.

And Trump, as we have mentioned, is not only in Dana White’s good graces, but also loved by the fanbase of the UFC. And this support was evident in his most recent appearance at UFC 299 earlier this year as Trump was met with almost universal cheers and applause by the fans. This, undoubtedly, is another factor that makes the UFC CEO so endearing to the former president.
