For the past few months, UFC CEO Dana White has faced criticism from mainstream MMA media, mainly due to his refusal to accept the top three pound-for-pound rankings. In this list, Jon Jones was ranked third, while Islam Makhachev took the top spot. This ranking frustrated White, who has been outspoken about it. The ongoing focus on Jon Jones has become a pain for White, with MMA media with memes consistently targeting him. Now, White has fired back with a powerful response that the MMA media probably won’t it.
Dana White, known for his never-forgetting humiliation nature, eventually seeks revenge, as seen throughout his entrepreneurial life. In his recent Instagram story, White shared a clip comparing MMA media to dogs, even suggesting they are worse than dogs, with the caption: “Dogs smarter then the media.” In the video, a dog was given two option on paper: one reading “Jon Jones is the best pound-for-pound” and the other reading “Not Jon Jones.” The dog chose the option stating “Jon Jones.”
Dana White’s fondness for Jon jones baffles mainstream MMA media, especially given Jones’ past issues with PED’s and legal troubles. Despite these controversies, White remains steadfast in his support. This admiration is mutual; Jones often shows respect for White. Recently, Jones highlighted White’s business skills on social media, stating, “You put Dana White in a business meeting with any man on this f—ing planet; there’s only one man coming out on top. Real recognize real.”

UFC CEO believes it’s just the MMA media and its critics who won’t accept Jon Jones as the number 1 pound-for-pound fighter in the world. However, he’s mistaken. Even one of his bantamweight champions and favorite, Sean O’malley, has challenged White’s claim and offered his reasons for not agreeing with it.
Sean O’Malley pours cold water on Dana White’s assertion
Dana White recently reignited his admiration for Jon Jones by stating that as long as Jones remains active, no one else can be considered the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world. Howeverm Sean O’Malley disagrees. In a recent interview with Helen Yee, while promoting his upcoming fight against Merab Dvalishvili at UFC 306, O’Malley was asked about the greatest fighter currently. He named Islam Makhachev as his top choice.
When Yee inquired why he didn’t select Jon Jones, O’Malley explained his reasoning. Although he acknowledged Jones’ GOAT status, he hesitated to consider him the best active fighter right now, O’Malley said, “I mean, Jon Jones is up there. It’s just, you know, the picture right now, you go back four or five years, and Jon’s fought once in the last 4-5 years.”
