Charles Oliveira recently became the UFC lightweight champion at the UFC 262 event. ‘Do Bronx’ competed against Michael Chandler for the UFC title at the event and won that fight via a 2nd round TKO. This was Oliveira’s 40th professional MMA fight and the champion currently has a record of (31-8-1).
Ever since Oliveira became the champion, various people have been congratulating the veteran fighter. However, there are also many people who believe ‘Do Bronx’ did not deserve the title shot and should not be the champion. One such individual is UFC fighter Justin Gaethje.

During a recent interview, Gaethje talked about how he thinks the Lightweight division has become a ‘laughing stock’ since Oliveira’s title victory. Now finally the UFC lightweight champion has responded to Gaethje. He said, “What I have to say to Gaethje is do your job, win your fights, and get your opportunity, just like I did, and make it happen. I’m going to be here with my belt.”
“When you get nine straight wins, you may complain with Dana. Nine months ago, I was top seven, asking for an opportunity against a top-five contender. Ten days before UFC 256, Ferguson’s opponent got hurt, and I was in shape, ready to accept the UFC invitation.”
Coming into the title fight, Oliveira was riding high on an 8 fight win streak. The fighter had performed admirably in every one of his fights and had paved his way to the title. Therefore, the fighter deservedly seemed upset with Gaethje’s comments and hit back at ‘The Highlight’.
Charles Oliveira says he is the UFC champion because he worked hard for it
Oliveira talked about his journey towards the UFC title and even talked about records he made during the process. He said, “After completely dominating Ferguson, I conquered my title shot. I did 28 fights in the UFC in the last 11 years; I was coming from eight consecutive wins; I have the bonus record of UFC.”

“I beat the record of submissions of Royce Gracie and Demian Maia in the organization. If I didn’t have the right to fight for the belt, who should have? If I’m the champion today, it is because I fought a lot for that.”
