Have you ever wondered how UFC top guns manage their diet and hydration – all between the grueling weight transitions they make? Well, if you haven’t, here’s something that you should know. Most UFC fighters struggle to make weight for fights and it has a lot to do with the water content in their bodies. But many top-tier UFC athletes like Leon Edwards, Alexander Volkanovski, and Israel Adesanya find it easy, thanks to their dedicated diet plans.

So, who takes care of these nuances of diet management? Well, when it comes to the likes of Edwards or ‘Volk,’ they have a hidden gem that helps them stay in shape. One notable name that pops up in these discussions is that of Jordan Sullivan, aka ‘the fight dietitian.’ Back in March, after the UFC had already signed a deal with PRIME sports drink as its official sports drink sponsor, Sullivan had a lot to say. Furthermore, pointing out the ‘ridiculous’ claims made by KSI and Logan Paul’s co-founded energy drink, the dietician made a surprising disclosure. But what does the UFC #1 pound-for-pound fighter’s dietician have to say about PRIME? Let’s find out!

When the UFC forged a partnership with PRIME sports drink as its official sports drink sponsor earlier this year, questions emerged about the efficacy of such beverages in aiding fighter rehydration. Jordan Sullivan, renowned for his role as the dietician for UFC’s elite, brought forward a thought-provoking analysis. He highlighted the misconceptions propagated by the energy drink brand and made a significant revelation about PRIME’s claims.

In his assessment, he shed some light on the complexities of fluid absorption in the body. He explained the importance of blood in rehydration, clarifying the journey fluids take from consumption to absorption. “So the blood is important when we talk about rehydration. When we drink fluid, it doesn’t just fall straight from our mouth into our blood. It has to go into our stomach – into our small intestine and then cross a wall to get into the blood… However, if you put the right amount of sodium with the right amount of glucose in there, you’ve just made the drink a VIP.”

Sullivan’s critique was directed at PRIME’s formulation, suggesting that it may not align with optimal rehydration strategies. He declared, “But the way Prime is formulated, you’re going the opposite way of getting it.” Contrary to PRIME’s claims, he underscored that the beverage might not offer the desired benefits due to its composition.

Jordan Sullivan’s insights on PRIME

Comparisons drawn by PRIME to other drinks in the market were also scrutinized by Sullivan. He indicated that several of these competing products surpassed PRIME in terms of hydrating and sports drink properties. The ‘fight dietitian’ further added, “That’s why these comparisons that PRIME do with other drinks that’s so ridiculous . Every drink that they compare themselves with, actually have way better hydrating or sports drink properties than what they do.”

Sullivan’s insights even extended to the medical realm. He emphasized the use of water, sodium, and glucose in IV fluids, a standard practice in medical rehydration. Moreover, he underscored the importance of these components, clarifying that they are common ingredients in effective sports drinks due to their proven efficacy. He concluded, “So, in short – rehydration is a very interesting term for these guys to use. And it doesn’t make a lot of sense to me.
