UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones is currently out with an injury. But when he returns, he will fight Stipe Miocic and defend his title. However, interim champion Tom Aspinall has broken his silence regarding that matchup. He believes it should be him and not Miocic who should get the chance to fight ‘Bones’ for the undisputed title. Apparently, fans agree with the English fighter.

The interim heavyweight champion took to social media recently and made a case for Stipe Miocic’s UFC career. He compared the veteran’s last UFC victory to a video game that came years ago. Aspinall said, “Last time Stipe fought and won, GTA: San Andreas had just come out on PS2.”

He also mentioned the fact that Stipe Miocic will be getting to fight for the title ahead of him. This is despite Tom Aspinall being ranked number 1 in the rankings, and this has seemingly not sat well with the English fighter. “He will fight next for the undisputed heavyweight title, ahead of me, who’s the interim champ, active and ranked #1 in the world right now. This makes me upset,” said Aspinall.

However, Tom Aspinall claimed that he had all the respect for the former 2-time heavyweight champion and what he had achieved throughout his MMA career. He further stated, “Stipe is one of my favorites. Loads of respect to him his resume is far superior to mine rn.” Nevertheless, Aspinall believes that the UFC should give him the title shot since he’s the top contender in the division.

“That being said the UFC has never been about this. It’s about who’s the best right now, and I believe that’s me and it’s only right I get to prove it,” Aspinall stated. It seems like the interim champion made a valid point as fans sided with him. Let’s have a look at what they had to say.

Fans shared the same sentiment as the interim champion

The fans took Tom Aspinall’s statements about Stipe Miocic’s title shot and seemed to agree with him. They also believe that the interim champion has made a valid point.

Furthermore, the fans also claimed that Stipe Miocic is in the twilight stage of his UFC career. Hence, a fight against Jon Jones for the title could be a waste. Moreover, they don’t even think that the veteran has done enough to get a title shot.

We all know Stipe is beyond washed. Such a waste of a title fight”

“He’s right. What the f*** is Stipe Covington doing fighting in a title fight after sitting out for 3 years?”

One fan mentioned that the former 2-time heavyweight champion could be looking to end his MMA career with a big payday. Meanwhile, he also sided with Tom Aspinall making a case for his title shot. But most fans believe that it’s is Jon Jones’s fault for choosing to fight the veteran.

“Stipe wants to end his career on a money fight. Not end his career to a young buck that’s gonna make a name off of him. Sadly I see both sides.”
