Is the UFC playing favorites with Khamzat Chimaev's sudden leap in the rankings?

Paulo Costa has come unglued, it seems, on social media as ‘Borrachinha’ fired some shots at Khamzat Chimaev. The Emirati star, fresh off a win over Robert Whittaker, made an insane jump in the rankings. Chimaev hopped over 10 fighters to get to the 3rd spot on the 185-pound list. Costa shared a snap of the updated rankings, claiming that he could find himself fighting ‘Borz’ soon.

“I won’t ask UFC to feed me with this disconcerted goat depraver anymore, this gonna happen anyway, and I will receive him on my lap graciously,” Paulo Costa wrote on X. He further shared an analysis of the ending to Chimaev’s fight against the former champion. As it has been established already, Robert Whittaker didn’t break his jaw; it was just his teeth that got moved deep inside his mouth. ‘Borrachinha’ even aimed at those who believed it was the jaw that was compromised.

“He was lucky enough that Rob broke his jaw before he submitted. (Rob jaw wasn’t broke by squeezing) only nonsense thought this way,” Paulo Costa further stated. To end his message, the Brazilian informed the UFC about his availability for a fight, urging a clash with anybody that matchmakers see fit. Having said that, I make myself available to the [UFC] business team mr Dana Mr Campbell as well as Mr Mick to fight anyone from this list by February,” Costa added while asking even the fans to let him know who they want him to fight next.

There are talks that maybe ‘Borz’ could jump ahead of Sean Strickland and fight Dricus Du Plessis for the title. As for Paulo Costa, he desperately needs to get back to his winning ways if he wants a title shot. Interestingly, the duo was paired up last year. But that fight fell off as ‘Borrachinha’ was forced to withdraw due to a nasty staph infection on his arm. However, Costa claims that Chimaev didn’t want to take that fight initially.

Khamzat Chimaev wanted none of Paulo Costa, according to the Brazilian star

Just a few days prior to Khamzat Chimaev’s fight against Robert Whittaker, Paulo Costa made a stunning claim about his canceled UFC 294 matchup against the Emirati star. He claimed to have scratched and clawed to land a fight against ‘Borz’ because he “always said no.” Costa believes the fight was ultimately booked thanks to the UFC’s matchmaking team who put in a lot of pressure on Chimaev to agree.

Have an interesting take?

“This fight was so hard to get because he [Chimaev] always said no. So UFC, Hunter [Campbell], maybe Dana [White], I don’t know but Hunter I’m sure, he push him. [Hunter] say ok, if you didn’t fight Paulo in Abu Dhabi, you fight no one. Nobody anymore, you know? You’re gonna stay until the next year [laughs]. He can’t come or something like that. I think he had problems on a document,” Paulo Costa told former UFC fighter, Jake Shields, on YouTube.

Could Dana White approve Costa’s message and pair ‘Borrachinha’ up with Khamzat Chimaev, or will it be someone else? Also, do you think ‘Borz’s win was blown out of proportion? Give us your take in the comments down below.
