In a recent talk with the famed American sportswriter, Dan Le Batard, on his talk show, Ngannou revealed some lesser-known facts about his beef with the UFC. Previously in January 2023, Dana White announced that Ngannou was out of the promotion and vacated his title. Soon after, the rumors began flying about what made ‘The Predator’ take an exit from the promotion.
Ngannou revealed that he only wanted a few more fights to fulfill the contract with the UFC. However, the UFC didn’t want to let him go. The promotion wanted him to sign another contract with more money, while all the fighter wanted was freedom.
He said, “What I was asking at first was just, like can I have a fight, because I had a, I had a eight fight contract, and I want to fulfill that contract. But they wouldn’t allow me since I wasn’t going to sign another contract, because they knew that if I fulfill that contract, I’m automatically free. And then they use some kind of like a dirty, dirty game there, you know. Freaks me out.”
“They know how much I was getting paid per fight, which wasn’t much at all. Just shoe pennies. So they knew I couldn’t make a living out of it. I have to come back and accept those contracts. And that was after the Junior dos Santos fight, who was in June 2019. Then it was almost one year after that I have to fight. So, you know, I just resisted to that.”
