MMA and Dagestani fighters seem to be made for each other. The Russian province has a knack for producing some of the toughest, most well-respected fighters in the sport, including GOAT contender Khabib Nurmagomedov and reigning UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev. In 2023, Dana White added another emerging star from Dagestan star by the name of Sharaputdin Magomedov.
Makhachev has spoken about the hard life in Dagestan, demanding a lot of physical labor, which produces tough, hardened men. Following that case in point, growing up in the streets, things weren’t easy for undefeated Sharaputdin Magomedov as well. He got into his fair share of troubles during his younger years, but when the news broke out that Magomedov was joining the UFC, he found himself in a rather controversial incident.

Sharaputdin Magomedov has been in the news for a couple of controversial events. In July 2023, he was involved in an alleged brawl at a shopping mall. In a video of the incident, he could be seen having heated discussions with a man in front of him on an escalator. As per sources, the man was kissing his girlfriend. The altercation escalated, and the two got into fisticuffs, with the civilian (who threw the first punch) managing to hold his own against the fighter before they were separated.
The middleweight, however, did not take kindly to this. In the extended video, Sharaputdin Magomedov could be seen waiting outside the mall. He proceeded to sucker punch his opponent as he was coming out of the mall with his girlfriend, downing him. He then brutally stomped on his fallen foe’s head.
Needless to say, ‘Bullet’ garnered quite a bit of heat following the altercation, but Magomedov defended himself in a statement, saying, “One has to understand the situation, in Makhachkala, there are unwritten rules, a kind of moral code of our own…In Moscow it is acceptable, but with us, it is not acceptable. I could not shut up.” He seemed to believe that it was indeed the right thing to do, but what about you?

What is the second controversy that Sharaputdin Magomedov got himself into? Well, let’s dive into it!
Grappling match controversy of Sharaputdin Magomedov
Another video from the ADCC Southeast Asia tournament has come forward that does not paint ‘Bullet’ in the best light. Sharaputdin Magomedov’s opponent put him into a heel lock and the Dagestani tapped almost immediately. He then went up to his opponent and had some heated words while the opponent was lying on the ground. He kicked him lightly and walked away.

In the comments section, one fan wrote that this was because he had an ankle injury and the two men had agreed not to use ankle locks before the fight. Magomedov was angry that his opponent went back on his word, so he kicked him. However, we could not confirm this information, and maybe the kick was down to him being a sore loser.

With so much attention paid to UFC fighters by the media, fans would have hoped that Sharaputdin Magomedov would try to stay away from garnering negative attention. However, he’d find himself in yet another controversial moment, where he would have almost injured someone pretty badly.
Shara ‘Bullet’s another controversy
Playboy model-turned-online content creator Nina Marie Daniele has garnered a lot of fans due to her collaborative videos with a wide array of UFC fighters. Sean Strickland to Jon Jones, she’s had the who’s who of Dana White’s promotion in her YouTube videos, so prior to UFC 308, she decided to collaborate with Sharaputdin Magomedov. The video started off in a pretty light-hearted tone as they began their training sessions and ‘Shara Bullet’ was playfully showing her some of his impressive moves.

But things seemed to be getting real as Sharaputdin Magomedov increased the pace of his moves, chasing Nina Marie-Daniele, but the real scare came a bit later. As the self-proclaimed ‘Pirate’ demonstrated a head kick, he narrowly missed Marie-Daniele’s head, prompting fans on social media to take issue with the undefeated fighter. Fortunately, she remained unharmed, but fans were certainly not very happy about that.
While he’s had controversies outside the Octagon, his UFC career has been crisp. With a 4-fight undefeated run in the UFC, Sharaputdin is making his return this weekend at UFC Fight Night 250 against Michael ‘Venom’ Page. Who do you think will take the win in Saudi Arabia? Drop your comments below.
