MMA and Dagestani fighters seem to be made for each other. The Russian province has a knack for producing some of the toughest, most well-respected fighters in the sport, including GOAT contender Khabib Nurmagomedov and reigning UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev. Now, we have another emerging star by the name of Sharaputdin Magomedov.

Makhachev has spoken about the hard life in Dagestan, demanding a lot of physical labor, which produces tough, hardened men. Another case in point is the upcoming, undefeated prospect Sharaputdin Magomedovwho will compete for a third time under the UFC banner. But when the news broke out that Magomedov was joining the UFC, he found himself in a rather controversial incident.

Sharaputdin Magomedov has been in the news for a couple of controversial events. In July 2023, he was involved in an alleged brawl at a shopping mall. In a video of the incident, he could be seen having heated discussions with a man in front of him on an escalator. As per sources, the man was kissing his girlfriend. The altercation escalated, and the two got into fisticuffs, with the civilian (who threw the first punch) managing to hold his own against the fighter before they were separated.

The middleweight, however, did not take kindly to this. In the extended video, the undefeated Dagestani could be seen waiting outside the mall. He proceeded to sucker punch his opponent as he was coming out of the mall with his girlfriend, downing him. He then brutally stomped on his fallen foe’s head.

Needless to say, the Dagestani fighter garnered quite a bit of heat following the altercation. But he defended himself in a statement, saying, “One has to understand the situation, in Makhachkala there are unwritten rules, a kind of moral code of our own…In Moscow it is acceptable , but with us it is not acceptable. I could not shut up.” He seemed to believe that it was indeed the right thing to do.

What is the second controversy that ‘Shara Bullet’ got himself into? If you guessed it to be a moment from the ADCC Southeast Asia tournament, you’re right on track. Let’s dive into it!

Sharaputdin Magomedov’s controversial moment during a grappling tournament

Another video from the ADCC Southeast Asia tournament has come forward that does not paint ‘Shara’ in the best light. Sharaputdin Magomedov’s opponent put him into a heel lock and the Dagestani tapped almost immediately. He then went up to his opponent and had some heated words while the opponent was lying on the ground. He kicked him lightly and walked away.

In the comments section, one fan wrote that this was because he had an ankle injury and the two men had agreed not to use ankle locks before the fight. Sharaputdin Magomedov was angry his opponent went back on his word, which is why he kicked him. We could not confirm this information, however, and maybe the kick was down to him being a sore loser.

Either way, the newest Dagestani on the UFC roster is already a controversial figure. Well, things may get out of control outside the Octagon, but he has to set his eyes on what goes on inside the Octagon as he has a chance to prove his mettle on the 4th of August 2024. He will face Michal Oleksiejczuk at UFC on ABC 7 and try his best to claim his third victory under the banner of the UFC.
