The ‘Tarzan’ and controversy go hand in hand and the UFC fighter was embroiled in several legal problems in his lifetime. He was first arrested at the tender age of 18 when he was facing felony charges in the USA for assault with a deadly weapon. Strickland declared that the weapon in the case was his fists after he had beaten up 2 men as a teenager.

“I was arrested on bulls**t charges, but it was two felonies, and I had a lawyer saying, you’re going to jail for like a minimum of three years. I was like 18, 19,” said the fighter during the UFC Vegas 67. He added, “’You walk in [to jail], and if you’re white, which you know, I am a white man, the white supremacists come up to you and give you the tour…”

Meanwhile, Strickland has had violent encounters during his time in the UFC as well. Maybe it was not a good idea to put Du Plessis and Strickland just two rows apart from each other in the crowd at UFC 296. His opponent had made the wrong decision of bringing up his childhood, which was traumatic and this made Strickland attack the UFC fighter.

He threatened Du Plessis, saying if his childhood was brought up again, he wouldstab him. There were other instances as well, such as the case in California, where he resisted the urge to shoot someone who pointed a shotgun at his head. He even held a trespasser at the point of his gun once because the person not only trespassed but assaulted a woman and ruined his car.

You’re kinda f***ed… I walk past the segregation of black cells, and you have all of these Chris Curtis-looking motherf**kers grabbing the bars, threatening me, telling me they are going to f***ing kill me… What I’m trying to say is I’m not made for prison.”
