The only questionable decision that UFC Middleweight champion Israel Adesanya made was to move up to Light Heavyweight decision. This led to his first loss to the Polish wrecking ball, Jan Blachowicz, and his first loss in the UFC. However, his legacy in the Middleweight division is undeniable and he has established himself as one of the best to ever do it.

Fighters who talk a big game in pre-fight conferences and interviews before facing Adesanya rarely walk out the same after. Middleweight fighter and former rival Marvin Vettori tried to rattle Adesanya but was unsuccessful. He faced the Middleweight champ twice, with not a single victory to his name. Recently, in an interview, he shared his thoughts on completing a trilogy with Adesanya.

Among the many rivalries that Middleweight champ Israel Adesanya has developed through the years, one of the most underwhelming and one-sided rivalries he has ever had has to be with Marvin Vettori. The Middleweight fighter has had the opportunity to settle the score, but Israel Adesanya has gotten the better of him – twice.

In a recent conference, Vettori shared his school of thought on facing Adesanya once again and the possibility of the winner of the Whittaker vs. Du Plessis fight to be the next one to face Adesanya.

Yeah, I mean, but.. It is what it is, to be honest. Like, I want to take… you know after this fight… so, my whole focus is to just like you said, I go out and just put on a great performance, finish him in a spectacular fashion or regardless just put on a very dominant performance. After that, I think everything will fall into place,” said Vettori when the interviewer asked him if there is a possible scenario where he beats Jared Cannonier so convincingly that he gets a title shot instead of either Whittaker or Du Plessis.

Talking about how he thought the fight would play out and adding to his previous statement, Vettori said, “I think that fight is kind of like a title eliminator. And I mean… yeah I mean, you know… like with that – with the South African thing – like one is more African than the other kind of makes sense. Like whoever, like wins eventually, gets that, even though I don’t…don’t see it going that way.

Despite bringing his A-game when it comes to trash-talking or even backing that up in the ring, Marvin Vettori fell short – both times. He had one round to his name in the first fight and that’s all he could celebrate for. However, Adesanya took that away from him in their second face-off with all three judges giving the fight to him. But he refuses to acknowledge that he has been defeated and is looking for an eventual title shot against Adesanya once again. As for now, Vettori is slated to face Jared Cannonier at UFC Fight Night on June 18.
