From being a slum dweller on Brooklyn streets to being The Baddest Man on Planet, Mike Tyson never had it cushiony. For Tyson, it was fate that once “dangled the carrot” and boosted him to stardom. Yet, Tyson doesn’t want his children to follow in his footsteps. He once spoke about this to the UFC color commentator, Joe Rogan.

The world has often witnessed the sons of noted personalities following in the steps of their fathers. Tiger Woods-Charlie Woods, Joe Bryant-Kobe Bryant, and Dell Curry-Stephen Curry are all examples of legendary father-son duos that the world of sports has witnessed. But in the case of combat sports, things play out a bit differently.

Injuries are a part of every sport. But there is hardly any category of sports more painful than combat sports. Lots of aspiring professionals have been silenced by gruesome injuries in this category of sports. Further, the chances of getting permanently disabled or even dying are always looming.

In a 2018 video, Tyson was seen holding the pads while his son punched them with the gloves on. The superb technique of ‘Iron’s’ son, Miguel Leon Tyson, caused a lot of buzz in the combat sports community. A lot of fans also might have expected Miguel Leon Tyson to step into the boxing ring soon. But Tyson was very clear about his wish for his kids.

He also revealed the same in an episode #1532 Joe Rogan’s noted podcast, ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’. Rogan kicked off this topic with a question for ‘Iron’. He asked, You don’t want your kids fighting?” Tyson strictly replied, No, no.” He laid further stress on his words, stating, “That’s what I did it for, so that they don’t have to.”

Rogan also realized Tyson’s point. He stated, “Yeah, I remember. You were talking about your son hitting pads and him possibly fighting. Like, man, you don’t have to fight an animal like me.”

The world would agree that it’s hard for every parent to witness their offspring in pain. Hence, it’s quite understandable that Tyson was a sensitive father who didn’t want his son to step into this ‘hall of pain’. But what is it that Tyson’s son does for a living?

It may be agreed that ‘Iron’s’ son, Miguel Leon Tyson, had inherited some of his father’s punching qualities. His punches in the video showcased quite some raw power. Still, Miguel never stepped into the boxing ring as a professional. However, it can’t be said whether it was Tyson’s influence or something else that stopped him from putting on the gloves professionally.
