Despite Refusing to Call Khabib the GOAT, Islam Makhachev Accepts Joe Rogan’s Opinion of His Teammate on the MMA Mt. Rushmore

The MMA community is well aware of the deep bond between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Islam Makhachev. The two have always stood up for each other and have seized every single opportunity to shower praise on each other. Due to their deep connection, many even mistake that they are related by blood. Nevertheless, Nurmagomedov indeed takes on the role of a brother and mentor in Makhachev’s life. Both the Dagestani fighters grew up training under Nurmagomedov’s father, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov.

When ‘The Eagle’s father passed away in 2020, the former UFC lightweight champion became the guiding light for Makhachev. Makhachev has always held Nurmagomedov in high regard, and he has proved it once again. Islam Makhachev approves Joe Rogan’s words on Khabib Nurmagomedov

Khabib Nurmagomedov retired from the sport in 2021 with an MMA record of 29-0. Ever since then, many have begun to consider him the GOAT. However, there was a section that believed otherwise. In the #2017 episode of JRE, the UFC commentator, Joe Rogan, has put an end to the debate. The 56-year-old said, “Khabib Nurmagomedov is arguably the greatest fighter of all time. He is definitely in the argument. I mean the guy lost like two rounds ever in his whole career. He is devoutly religious. I mean 5 times a day is a call to prayer.“

Further, the former Fear Factor host praised the UFC Hall of Famer for sticking firmly to his faith. He added, “During Ramadan, there is no eating, no drinking, no nothing during the day. Training is all like brutal and Spartan. And he is super humble, he is super humble, and he is, you know, he is admirable. Right like you see a man like that’s a man of character. That’s a man of distinction. Yes, that’s a champion.” The clip of Rogan praising Nurmagomedov found its way to Instagram and was posted on the page ‘za.khabiba’. When Islam Makhachev came across the post, he shared the video on his Instagram story, making it clear that he approves every single word from Rogan.

The UFC commentator put an end to the GOAT debate

Surprisingly, the UFC commentator has often taken the name of Jon Jones as the GOAT instead of choosing Nurmagomedov. During the #1977 episode of JRE, Rogan mentioned that it’s hard to take a single name when it comes to the greatest fighter of all time. According to him, Jon Jones is a great fighter who can be called the GOAT. However, Rogan believed that when it comes to dominance inside the octagon, Nurmagomedov surpasses everyone to be number one.

Later, Rogan also mentioned that Nurmagomedov was the best fighter who was able to defeat all the great fighters in the UFC lightweight division.
