Georges St-Pierre recently made an announcement of a roaring comeback to competition in December 2023. The UFC dropped a bombshell, revealing that St-Pierre will be throwing down in a gripping grappling match at a UFC Fight Pass Invitational event. Although his opponent remains a mystery, St-Pierre has a few names dancing in his mind.

The former two-division UFC champion had previously spilled the beans, revealing that Khabib Nurmagomedov was one of the fighters extended to him as a potential opponent for his anticipated comeback. However, that rumor failed to gain any traction beyond mere words. Recently, when discussing the fighters he would be interested in facing, ‘The Eagle’ didn’t make the cut to his list.

During an interview on The MMA Hour, St-Pierre bared his hunger for a formidable opponent who will serve as a delight to his fans. Talking to Ariel Helwani about the names that come to his mind right off the bat in terms of his next opponent, GSP said, “I’m talking about maybe the Diaz brothers could be a guy. I’m a competitive guy and something like that, maybe I think the fans will want to see.”

The 42-year-old said, “Or it could be someone that is active, you know, right now is currently active. I don’t know. [Kamaru]Usman, [Colby]Covington, someone like this. You know, it depends- I think it’s up to the audience to choose who they would like to see. And I think it needs to be a formidable opponent, too.”

Later in the discussion, St-Pierre revealed that he was not interested in fighting anyone with striking background and wants to put on a show for the fans. Yet, St-Pierre wants to make it crystal clear that this encounter is not a quest for accolades or the pursuit of perfection.

“I’m doing this more as a novelty competition match than a competition match that is there for a ranking to have a place among, to be the best. Because no illusion, I’m 42 years old, you know what I mean. I have other priorities that are more important than this right now,” said the UFC legend.
