Israel Adesanya is one of the biggest UFC superstars today. Being the Middleweight champ, Adesanya is used to headlining events and being the most talked about fighter in most fight cards he features on. That is why, when the possible mega-fight between Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg was announced, Adesanya had a different mindset towards it then as compared to the mindset he has now.

Adesanya’s last fight against Alex Pereira at UFC 287 fortified the Middleweight champ as one of the greatest the division has ever seen. His impressive record is a testament to his great potential. A fighter of his caliber warming up the stage for Musk and Zuckerberg was something that Adesanya’s ego couldn’t handle back then.

Known to be among the few fighters who truly speak their minds, Israel Adesanya has always been upfront about how he feels about a fight or a fighter. In his recent interview with ‘The Halfcast Podcast’ on YouTube, Adesanya spoke candidly about how his ego tried getting the better of him and how he brushed it aside.

One of the podcast hosts asked Adesanya what his opinion was of the Mark Zuckerberg-Elon Musk fight. “Make it happen!“, exclaimed the champ, before he continued. “I’ll tell you one thing. My ego – cause even they were talking about doing it at the Colosseum, I was like, man, you know… I was like… ah, if I say this… okay, I’ve said this out loud to myself but my ego at first was kind of like… nah I can’t… f*****g call headline to Zuck and Musk,” admitted ‘Stylebender.’

The fighter then proceeded to describe how he tamed his ego and made the right choice. “But, but… watch this – Then… when I… when I got back home, clarity kicked and I was like shut the f**k up *slaps himself*. This will be the most watched fight in history. Who gives a f**k? I’ll be the opening f*****g fight for that…. You know what I mean?“.

Looking at the exposure that a fight of that magnitude would bring, Adesanya said he had come to terms with it. It seemed he was quite enthused about it. “The whole world’s gonna watch this f*****g fight. F*****g be the f*****g first card, first fight whatever – it doesn’t matter. Just be on that card, so… yeah!“, he said, in the end.
