‘Stillknocks’ is coming for the title spot! UFC #1 Middleweight Dricus Du Plessis seems poised to take the Middleweight title home. But there’s one small hurdle – Sean Strickland has potentially been given a golden ticket to the title shot by the UFC. Allegedly ‘Tarzan’ is supposed to get his title shot against MW champ Israel Adesanya, aka the ‘Stylebender,’ this September, at UFC 293.
However, recent tweets from ‘Tarzan’ suggest that the promotion may have given up the idea for good. Moreover, even former champ Robert Whittaker doesn’t expect Strickland jumping ‘Stillknocks’ to get his wished-for title shot. Now, adding his doubts to the mix, the #1 UFC Middleweight has stirred the pot with his comments.

Despite the endless online trolls and mocking that he has garnered from all across the MMA community, it seems like Du Plessis is unfazed. He’s definitely doing his part to bring attention to his title-shot claim. In the same vein, he kicked off the interview, claiming that his feud with Adesanya is pure business – nothing personal.
While speaking his mind about Strickland’s chances of having his title shot, Du Plessis added an interesting twist to the tale. He cast doubts over the possibility of the fight’s fruition, adding,
“For me, this is not personal – this is business. And if they do make the Strickland fight, which I hardly doubt is going to happen… I’m number one in the world. I beat Robert Whittaker. There is nothing left. He has beaten the whole division – there’s nothing left for me, before fighting for the title.”
He dismissed the notion that a potential matchup between Adesanya and Strickland would affect his championship aspirations. Instead, he asserted that his focus remains solely on becoming the UFC Middleweight champion.
Dricus Du Plessis’ championship goal is above everything else
For Du Plessis, the goal is clear – to secure the championship belt. He maintains that he doesn’t care whether he faces Israel Adesanya or Sean Strickland; his focus is on defeating the reigning champion. His words reflect a similar POV, as he further added, “At the end of the day, I’m there to fight the champion. I don’t care if I’m fighting Izzy or I’m fighting Strickland, or whoever.”
Amid speculations and uncertainties, Du Plessis remains resolute in his pursuit of the title, undeterred by potential opponents or online chatter. Declaring his claim to the title, the #1 UFC Middleweight concluded,
