The rivalry between Sean O’Malley and Aljamain Sterling is finally going to be resolved the way the fans wanted it to be resolved – in the Octagon. O’Malley, one of the most popular fighters in the UFC roster today, is looking to snatch away the Bantamweight title from the reigning champ Aljamain Sterling at UFC 292.

The two never liked each other. O’Malley wanted the title for the longest time and Sterling had been dead against giving O’Malley a title shot. He had a fallout with UFC President Dana White over this but the latest news confirms that the two have resolved it. Now, the fight is happening for sure and is scheduled for 20 August. O’Malley recently addressed the claims made by Sterling ahead of their clash and revealed some interesting details.

Aljamain Sterling has always been vocal about Sean O’Malley getting the ‘Dana White privilege’. According to the champ, he had to fight tooth and nail to get a title shot but O’Malley’s journey to the title contender has been fairly easy. That is why, Sterling was and still is opposed to the idea of O’Malley getting a title shot. However, Dana White is making it happen, regardless.

In a recent interview, O’Malley was asked why there is so much bad blood between him and Sterling. “I don’t know, I mean… he has what I want. He’s the champ. I want – I want the belt. I have what he wants… good looks, fame, money – literally everything… so, it’s just, I think that’s where we… you know, clash heads a bit.“, he had said.

The interviewer then proceeds to talk highly of O’Malley and his contribution to the promotion. She then mentions Sterling’s comment about ‘Sugar’ getting the ‘Dana White privilege’, and his journey being an easy one, before asking him about his retort to the critics.

You know, I’m not gonna argue that too much. My hardest fight was Petr Yan but that’s a good fight to have, to say that’s my hardest fight. Petr Yan is – was the number one guy. He’s an absolute killer. Everyone agrees with that. Everyone on the roster agrees Petr Yan is a savage. I went out there and beat him. I’m the most marketable guy in the division so…“, replied O’Malley, remembering his fight against Petr Yan
