Conor McGregor has hinted at his possible return to the Octagon. However, as usual, things are a bit vague around the Irishman’s claims. He recently put out a somewhat cryptic post about entering the USADA pool however, he made one thing very clear. His samples have more than likely been submitted. So what’s next?

There are still issues and just too much speculation. Is McGregor finally going to fight Michael Chandler in the cage in the coming year? The truth is, nobody really knows. The two fighters have been taunting and teasing each other for the better part of the year now. However, will the fight ever go down? UFC legend Chael Sonnen had some thoughts about it in his latest video.

Chael Sonnen is a master of speculation. He’s also a very brilliant UFC analyst and can have his claims in pretty good spots. More importantly, the UFC veteran has insider information about the whole McGregor vs. Chandler fight. In his latest video, Sonnen showed disbelief about the fight ever really happening.

“Apparently bout agreements weren’t even issued and bout agreements weren’t even issued not just because of USADA, there was never a venue, there was never it on sale, there was never a date,” explained Sonnen. The former fighter was absolutely correct about his stance. While announcements and beef were afloat all the time, an official agreement was never really signed between the two fighters.

This does lead one to ask, is the fight even happening? ‘The Notorious’ has had his issues with his health and then with the USADA. Meanwhile, Chandler has been sitting and waiting for the fight to happen for months. Now that McGregor might finally pass his doping test, will it come through? Chandler has teased that the fight might happen next year.

That is, at UFC 300. Exactly about six months from now. This speculation is believable because USADA takes six months to test a fighter’s samples until they’re cleared for the fight. If McGregor has truly sent in his clean samples, the fight should ideally go down around April 2024 if UFC CEO Dana White is to be believed. However, Sonnen had an interesting bit of information that he shared with his audience.

Sonnen reveals never before heard details around the fight

Sonnen has been in touch with the UFC for ages now. That’s why, he could know behind-the-scenes information like no other. He told his fans and audience that a clever reporter took up an interesting mission of connecting to the three parties. McGregor, Chandler, and the UFC itself. His discoveries were interesting.

“The day that (the fight) was announced a reporter went to find out what weight class? He asked three people he got three different answers, and that was the day that I knew we don’t have a fight.”

Sonnen also suggested that a fight can be planned now but indicated that back when he heard of this information, there was no fight set. Clearly, the UFC, McGregor, and Chandler had different ideas of what weight divisions they’d be fighting in.
