The second half of 2023 was nothing less than a war for the promotion. After saving UFC 294 from two sabotaged fights, Jon Jones came out of the syllabus for Dana White. Just a week ahead of his clash against Miocic, ‘Bones’ tore his pectoral muscles which forced Dana White to call his protege Hunter Campbell and his team to save UFC 295. In the latest “Fight Inc: Inside the UFC” we could witness that the UFC supremo was absolutely devastated by the news and it was Campbell who took charge.

So how did Campbell manage the situation so effectively? Well, it is simple, he made a call to the Aspinall and Palvovich camps and informed them about the clash, and voila! It must be noted that the entire UFC’s top management was kind of forced to give Aspinall the Interim heavyweight belt as there was no other way to clinch in such big stars to fight on such short notice.

“Alright, listen, this is between you and I. I’m probably going to announce it shortly. You and Sergei Pavlovich are going to be fighting for the interim title. Like I told you, crazy sh*t happens, you never know!” said Campbell in a conversation with Tom Aspinall on the phone. The Interim champ was sleeping when the phone rang as described by him and he just got the news and said yes.

Well, Tom Aspinall vs. Sergei Pavlovich was not the only fight that Hunter Campbell wanted to make. The UFC supremos’s protege wanted something much more than that.

Hunter Campbell was looking to rope in a lightweight title fight at UFC 295

Charles Oliveira and Islam Makhachev were supposed to clash at UFC 294 but just a week ahead of their clash, Oliveira suffered a nasty cut above his eye that rendered him out of the event and Alexander Volkanovski had to step up. Makhachev defeated the former featherweight champion in the very first round and thus was deemed for a back-to-back clash by Campbell.

Hunter Campbell was sure that he could clinch in the lightweight greats for a clash and promised Dana White for it as well, “The other thing we can do is try and see if Islam and Oliveira can fight. Islam took a single punch, and Oliveira is still in shape, and his cut would be ready by then too. I think I can pull that off,” said Campbell. However, team Oliveira denied any clash for the Brazilian till he fully recovered from his injuries.

Hunter Campbell tried his best to save UFC 295 and he for sure succeeded in it. Nonetheless, Jon Jones is now ready to return and looks like it will be against Miocic. Do you believe that the heavyweight champion will come back with a bang? State your thoughts in the comments below.
