UFC welterweight veteran Demian Maia took to Twitter and responded to a call-out issued by a UFC staple in Diego Sanchez. The aforementioned fighters are amongst the most experienced athletes within the promotion, and they have been on a collision course. Both fighters have expressed an interest to fight each other for a while now and it seems like it could be on the cards.

Sanchez listed out several opponents who he believed would be viable fights at this stage in his career. He has received a positive response from Conor McGregor as well, however, that fight isn’t likely to materialize. A scrap against a fellow veteran in Demian Maia makes more sense as both men are at the tail end of their illustrious careers.

UFC welterweights: Demian Maia vs Diego Sanchez

The former title challenger in Maia has dedicated 14 years old his life to the UFC, and he began fighting back in 2007. Chiefly, he’s fought against several high-level champions, including Anderson Silva and Tyron Woodley. The Brazilian has kept himself in the mix despite the fact that he just turned 43.

Demian recently lost a critical match-up against Gilbert Burns, who’s now on his way to fight for the title. Prior to the loss, he was on a three-fight streak and would himself be in line for contention. However, the brutal TKO loss to ‘Durinho’ Burns has seemingly made him dissolve any title fight aspirations. He’s been on record to say that his next fight could very well be his last.

Diego Sanchez is coming off a loss to Jake Matthews in a bout that wasn’t too competitive. The former TUF 1 fighter has definitely missed a few steps as he’s now in his 16-year with the company. The aging veteran has unfortunately been unable to keep up with the current competition, and he’ll have to consider slowing down. Not to mention, he’s absorbed plenty of damage throughout his long run in the UFC.
