The BJJ world is in shock after the news about Orlando Sanchez’s death was confirmed. Popular singer and songwriter Demi Lovato also mourned a dear friend and BJJ coach. Lovato, who first rose to prominence after her performance as Mitchie Torres in Camp Rock, is known for her musical prowess. Few people, however, would know that she had trained in BJJ with none other than the ‘Cuban Tree Stump’. Demi Lovato shared a heartfelt message for the departed trainer on her Instagram handle. Rumors of Sanchez‘s passing away were making rounds for a while, but the confirmation came after his gym, Gracie Barra issued a confirmation.

Orlando Sanchez played American football in his formative years. He, however, took to drugs and intoxication in most of his 20s. His friends then pushed him toward BJJ and he started training under Draculino black belt Alberto Crane.
He was naturally gifted on the mat and rose to grab the Brown belt in just three years of training. He trained under Gracie Barra coaches and was promoted to the Black Belt by Coach Jose Olimpio. Orlando Sanchez then joined GB as a coach.
Demi Lovato remembers coach and friend
Demi Lovato had trained with the renowned coach and took to Instagram to pay her tribute to Sanchez. In a story she shared, Lovato wrote, “RIP Buddy… thank you for introducing me to BJJ and being such a great intructor/friend. I’ll always remember our training and great times on the road together.”

Lovato had a close relationship with Sanchez. She earned her blue belt under his training. Sanchez had stood by her when a lot of people were of the opinion that she didn’t deserve to be a blue belt. Orlando Sanchez had also accompanied the Camp Rock star on tour with the Jonas Brothers.
UFC stars and the BJJ world mourn for Orlando Sanchez
Orlando Sanchez‘s departure at just 40 years of age has saddened many people. Ex-UFC star and Nate Diaz‘s teammate Jake Shields had also shared his tributes for the former ADCC champion. Winning the ADCC 99+ kg championship was probably the greatest highlight of Orlando Sanchez. Grappler Gordon Ryan took to social media to pay his tributes and tell fans about his close relationship with Sanchez.
