There is no doubt that Jon Jones and Francis Ngannou are two of the most exciting fighters the UFC has ever seen. Both have accomplished big things and fans wanted to see them fight, but they never got the chance. However, ‘The Predator’ recently opened up to Joe Rogan that there was a possibility of a fight between him and the reigning UFC heavyweight champion.

UFC CEO Dana White and Francis Ngannou had a highly public feud following the latter’s exit from the promotion. Both parties could not come to an agreement regarding the Cameroonian-French fighter’s contract, which led to bad blood between the two. Nevertheless, before his eventual exit, White ideated a heavyweight clash between Ngannou and Jon Jones. Let’s see what the former UFC star had to say about that.

It is not an unknown fact that Francis Ngannou always wanted to compete in boxing matches, much like Conor McGregor. However, the UFC did not like that idea. Instead, both Ngannou and the promotion agreed to a 3-fight contract. The former UFC star said, “So three-fight deal, no extensions. That seemed to be attractive.”

Additionally, Francis Ngannou also revealed that among the three fights, two of them were supposed to be against Jon Jones. The other fight was a potential trilogy fight against Stipe Miocic. “Two fights were supposed to be potentially Jon Jones, fight a rematch and one fight is the trilogy with Stipe. That was the request and worked for both parties,” said ‘The Predator’. However, that did not come to fruition because of a discrepancy.

Dana White’s promotion spoiled Ngannou’s chance to earn a million-dollar deal

With the three-fight deal contract in place, ‘The Predator’ found himself in a great place. He was offered a sponsorship deal from a cryptocurrency wallet. Moreover, the deal was supposed worth over a million dollars. Francis Ngannou further stated, “We get to another point – sponsorship deals… after the Stipe fight, I had a deal on the table for over a million dollars from a cryptocurrency wallet.”

The deal was worth around $1.2 million, an amount that Francis Ngannou had never earned in his career. So it was an exciting time for him, given that he never got that much money for a fight. The former UFC star continued, “I was going to have, like, I think, $1.2 million, which is the money that I never had in the fight. I was going to have that in a sponsorship.” However, things took a turn for the worse.

Ngannou was about to pen down the deal with the cryptocurrency wallet when the UFC signed a deal with another cryptocurrency company. That created a conflict of interest between the promotion and the Cameroonian-French fighter. The deal was this close to sign and then they [The UFC] announced the Crypto.com deal,” Francis Ngannou added.

This was one of the disagreements that Ngannou had with Dana White’s promotion. Even though he gave up boxing, he wanted the UFC to find a middle ground where both parties would have ended up in a great place. However, things later turned sour as ‘The Predator’ was shown the door.
