Conor McGregor’s adventurous life knows no bounds. After his escapades in Europe through BKFC, the former UFC champ is back in the United States for yet another visit to the White House in the nation’s capital. Surprised? Well, McGregor was invited as an esteemed guest for the St. Patrick’s Day celebrations by the Trump administration. During his visit, ‘Mystic Mac’ addressed the media, stirring a bit of controversy. However, despite the backlash, his fiancee, Dee Devlin, continues to stand firmly by his side.
While briefing the media about his visit, the 36-year-old fighter highlighted the importance of growing relationships between Ireland and the United States. However, what caught everyone’s attention was the fact that McGregor quipped that Ireland as a country is losing its Irishness. “What’s going on with Ireland is a travesty. Our government is a government of zero action with zero accountability. You know, our money is being spent on overseas interest that has nothing to do with the Irish people. The illegal immigration racket is running ravage on the country.”
The former champion’s statement at the most prominent geopolitical location caused quite a stir in his home country, sparking a fresh controversy and positioning him against the administration. Unsurprisingly, McGregor’s fiance is firm in her stance to support her love in any condition. She took to her Instagram handle to upload a series of ‘Mystic Mac’ posts on her story supporting him.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise since Dee Devlin has been one of Conor McGregor’s biggest supporters since their early days. Even when the former dual-weight champion was embroiled in the Nikita Hand case, she stood firmly by McGregor’s side, despite the world turning against him. The political statement was in the line of McGregor trying his hand in politics and a good relationship with Donald Trump might help him get a seat at the Irish congress.
Well, apart from her, several other prominent figures have reacted to the news in their own unique ways. Michael Chandler took to his Instagram handle to reshare a story by ‘hype.fighting,’ suggesting a fight between him and ‘President McGregor.’ For crying out loud, Chandler still hasn’t moved on from the McGregor fight.

Mike Perry on the other hand took to the comment section of the post shared by Conor McGregor to congratulate him, “Congrats man.” However, the wittiest remark was from Paulo Costa who uploaded a video where he searched the word, ‘Travesti’ on Google and the results were not what he was expecting. He captioned it as “I saw @TheNotoriousMMA speech at White House and realize that Ireland 🇮🇪 status is worse than I thought. It’s A TRAVESTY!”
This is not the first time that the former UFC champ has made such a controversial statement against the administration. Conor McGregor is quite a critic of the ruling Fianna Fáil and the Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin. Well, ‘Mystic Mac’s statement did cause tremors in the Irish parliament as multiple politicians have come forward to refute the Irish icon.

Politicians scramble for damage control after Conor McGregor’s statement
Did Conor McGregor take it a bit too far when he called out the entire Irish government for its immigration mismanagement? While being critical of the government is a citizen’s right, it seems that ‘Mystic Mac’ may have made a mistake by raising these concerns at the US lobby — at least, that’s what the Irish leader believes.
Commenting on McGregor’s statement, the Taoiseach,(Prime Minister of Ireland) stated that the former UFC champion doesn’t reflect the idea of St. Patrick’s Day through his statements. “St Patrick’s Day around the world is a day rooted in community, humanity, friendship, and fellowship. Conor McGregor’s remarks are wrong and do not reflect the spirit of St Patrick’s Day, or the views of the people of Ireland,” Micheál Martin added.
Not only he but Tánaiste (Irish deputy prime minister), Simon Harris, emphasized that Conor McGregor’s presence in the Oval Office is in his personal capacity and he doesn’t speak for the entire Irish state. “He doesn’t speak for Ireland. He doesn’t speak for the people of Ireland. He has no mandate to do such,” Harris said to reporters in New York.

Lastly, Social Democratic and Labour Party (SDLP) assembly member Matthew O’Toole took it a bit too far when he called out to Conor McGregor’s presence at the White House as an insult to the Irish Republic and it was just deeply depressing that the Trump administration invited him to their biggest office – “That Trump and his administration thought on Ireland’s national day to invite and clearly make a huge effort to platform and amplify McGregor, who is an appalling individual, is frankly beyond the pale.”
It appears that the entire Irish congress has come in unison to call out McGregor. Regardless, will ‘Mystic Mac’s aggression have any impact on United States policy towards Ireland? State your thoughts in the comments below.
