Sean Strickland made a major mistake by trashing Khamzat Chimaev prior to his bout against Dricus Du Plessis at UFC 312. ‘Tarzan’ seemed to believe that he could rise victorious over the middleweight champion. After that, bring the fight to the ‘Chechen Wolf’. On top of that, he dissed Robert Whittaker for losing that easily and quickly at UFC 308. And that has attracted some stern responses from the fighting community.

Talking to the MMA Junkie, Strickland reacted to Chimaev receiving commendations for submitting ‘The Reaper’ and breaking his jaw in the process. ‘Tarzan’ said, “[Chimaev] fought [Whittaker] who came out really f—ing flat and doesn’t give a f—. Rob is known to either be a f—ing superstar or a f—ing can. And he was a f—ing can. He was just met with too much pressure.” 

However, Strickland seemed confident in his stance against Chimaev. He continued, “After I’m done with —ing Chimaev he’s —ing to go back to peddling —ing crypto scams.” And his rant against Whittaker continued. Well, Strickland had previously lashed out at  ‘Borz’ back in October, after his fight with DDP was announced. Well, he was pretty excited to overtake Chimaev in the title race.

Needless to say, Khamzat Chimaev will be the one to fight the winner of the UFC 312 main event. And to take on ‘Borz’, Sean Strickland would have to defeat Du Plessis first. Championship Rounds brought Strickland’s words to light through an Instagram post. And the fight fans took over the comments section to reveal their thoughts.

Many fans seemed to believe that Strickland wouldn’t be able to win against Dricus Du Plessis. But the motive behind most of their thoughts was to watch a battle between Du Plessis and Chimaev. It certainly seemed like a fight between ‘Tarzan’ and ‘Borz’ didn’t excite many. One of the fans wrote, “Bro really called Rob a can as if Rob also wasn’t a former champ. I hope DDP violently finishes him so we can get the goofy ahh DDP/ Chimaev fight.” Another fan warned, “To fight Chimaev, you need to get belt first! And if you do fight him, he’ll do you worse than Rob… leave you unconscious for days!” The fan continued, “And after that… you can go back to being a journeyman and begging for a title shot.”

And even if Strickland managed to defeat DDP, the fans didn’t believe that he could conjure the same miracle against the ‘Chechen Wolf’. One of the fans commented, “lol Chimaev rd 1 sub this guy really said don’t wrestle inna world title fight.” Another fan pointed out that Chimaev was overpowered against Strickland. He wrote, “Khamzat will bounce Strickland around like a basketball.” One more fan added, “Khamzat might retire Strickland.”

A few of the fans traveled back to UFC 308 and reflected on the impeccable prowess that Chimaev displayed against Robert Whittaker. It was definitely superior than many of Strickland’s fights. One fan wrote, “khamzat’s performance against rob beats all of strickland’s pro fights.” Another fan added, “khamzat finished him but tell us the last time you win without decision.” Of course, Strickland’s words troubled the fighting community. One fan wrote, “Am i tripping or has Sean’s trash talk not hit the same? Dude’s been whining since he lost.”
