The wave of excitement subsided, and concern engulfed MMA fans when Craig Jones‘ recent claims about Khabib Nurmagomedov made waves on the internet. His comments divided the fans and also put the Russian fighter’s hypothetical fight against fellow UFC legend Georges St-Pierre in jeopardy. Months of anticipation turned sour, and fans asked one question. Is there a price for the Dagestani fighter’s services?

The saga dates back to when ‘Rush’ announced his comeback for a grappling contest in December. While he screened multiple opponents, one name caught the fans’ imagination: ‘The Eagle’ Khabib Nurmagomedov. However, their hopes soon plummeted when Craig Jones declared, “I think they said Khabib wanted five million dollars to do the grappling match.” As expected, his comments attracted flak, but the question remained. After a few days of uncertainty, fans have their clarification now.

The former UFC champion’s manager, Rizvan Magomedov, opened up about the recent fiasco involving his client. In a TASS report, he disclosed that the talks of the superfight were real. But the negotiations never reached a point where Nurmagomedov would have discussed the amount. There was nothing concrete beyond the inquiry into the desire.

Magomedov said, “They offered to hold a fight. But the conversation didn’t even get to the amounts. They didn’t even discuss, didn’t ask what the amount and price were. They asked whether there was a desire or not. Then it was all over.”

Therefore, he admitted there was no truth in the recently floated rumors by Jones. Magomedov also had an interesting take on Jones, who seemed to have caused trouble for his client in the past few days.

“And where did Craig Jones get the figure, about 5 million? Maybe his grandmother whispered these numbers to him. It looks ridiculous,” Magomedov stated. Hence, the chapter on Nurmagomedov’s accusations seemed to be reaching a close for now. But where does it leave fans and the traction of the rumored fight between GSP and Nurmagomedov?

Meanwhile, Nurmagomedov is focused on spending time with his family; he even dropped his coaching duties with the American Kickboxing Academy. Thus, the fans wouldn’t witness him in Islam Makhachev‘s corner in upcoming fights. Likewise, there are doubts about his willingness to accept the grappling fight against GSP.
