Tom Aspinall rose to stardom after he defeated Sergei Pavlovich at UFC 295 for the interim title. The 30-year-old took the fight on a very short notice and won via knockout. Since then, the interim heavyweight champion has been open to fight anyone in the division. However, he does believe that former UFC heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier would be a tough proposition. Cormier,44 currently retired from the sport was one of the toughest fighters in the division and one of the only three ‘champ champs’ in the UFC. He held the title in both the light heavyweight and the heavyweight divisions, thus asserting his dominance.

Aspinall in a recent X post (formerly Twitter) uploaded by MMA Frenzy said:” You know what I always say and I say every time I see DC. I think he is an absolute nightmare match-up for me. Sure he’s fit, he’s a good wrestler, he keeps coming at you. He would have been very, very hard work for me. But I believe that I have the power to knock anybody out. So I think I could beat him, but stylistically he is a terrible match-up for me. But I absolutely love DC. So big shout out to DC.”

With Cormier retired from the sport, the possibility of Aspinall fighting him is out of action. However, there’s one fight ‘Honey Badger’ has been waiting desperately for. The 30-year-old Brit has been very vocal about taking on Jon Jones for the heavyweight title with little response from the champion. The pair also engaged in a bit of verbal spat on social media. However, Jones recently shared his thoughts on the Brit in a rather candid take.

Jon Jones finally responds to the Tom Aspinall fight

Jon ‘Bones’ Jones is arguably one of the most complete fighters in all of MMA, and his records are a testament to that. The 36-year-old is currently out of action and is nursing an injury that forced him out of the fight against Stipe Miocic at UFC 295. However, during his absence, Tom Aspinall has risen to the top and is the current interim heavyweight champion. While Jones already has Stipe Miocic in his mind when he returns to the Octagon, he cleared the air regarding his fight against Aspinall during his recent appearance for Submission Radio.

Jones in the video said: “I’m really going to base whether I continue to fight on how I compete against Stipe,”. He further added: “How I heal up from this injury you know, I could blow Stipe out of the water or it could be an absolute war and I feel like I need to take one step at a time before, seeing what I do next but the Tom fight is definitely not off the table.”
