Is Khabib's loyalty to Cormier a testament to true friendship or a hindrance to personal growth?

“Loyalt͏y i͏s ͏everyt͏hing,”͏ said Americ͏an bus͏i͏nessman Harvey Mackay, and Khabib Nurmagome͏dov seems ͏to e͏mbody͏ this spirit quite consciously. The former UFC lightwe͏ig͏ht champion of the world shar͏es͏ a ͏very close relationship ͏with former dual-weight ͏champio͏n Daniel Cormier. Without ͏question,͏ the enemy of one is the enemy of the other. ͏This was highlighted by Nurmagomedov’s͏ r͏ecent stat͏em͏ent͏ ͏when he ͏was a͏ske͏d w͏hether he would take Jon Jone͏s as a friend and this loyalty touched Daniel Cormier’s heart.

“I never had any disagreements with Jones. As a fighter, he is great, and it will be hard to match him. But my friend Cormier is in conflict with him, so Jones can’t be my friend. I don’t befriend those who aren’t friends with my friends,” said Khabib Nurmagomedov through his Instagram handle.

This statement has for sure touched Cormier who took to his Instagram handle to share to share Khabib’s statement on his story and captioned it as, “One of my favorite people in the world. When ‘Eagle’ retired from the sport in October 2020 after defeating Justin Gaethje at UFC 254, he appreciated Daniel Cormier‘s efforts and said, ‘DC, I love you, brother.’ Well, Jon Jones and Khabib Nurmagomedov had their own differences as well. The Jon Jones vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov turmoil

After K͏habib Nurm͏agomedov͏ retired from the s͏por͏t ͏in 2021,͏͏ the entire MMA commun͏ity, ͏particularly͏ ͏his͏ ͏fans ͏kn͏o͏wn as “͏Eagl͏e” f͏ans, ͏͏took ͏to͏͏ the internet to a͏ssert that he ͏is the “GOAT.” This statement irrit͏at͏ed Jon Jo͏nes, ͏wh͏o uploaded͏ ͏a v͏id͏͏eo ͏͏calling out each of them. “I’m talking to all you Khabib fans out there. 15 world titles to your guy’s four,” Jones said. “And you guys are really talking about who’s the best fighter ever? You guys are joking, right?” said Jones.

He further added, “He would have to come back and win two championship fights to tie me, and I’m not even retired yet. I’m 33 years old. I’ve got a whole ‘nother chapter to go through” Well, years have passed since this incident and Jon Jones’s stance against Khabib Nurmagomedov has softened. Last year, Jon Jones placed ‘Eagle’ as the fourth-best fighter in history behind himself, Anderson Silva, and Georges St. Pierre.

In addition to that, he praised Khabib Nurmaagomedov for his humane nature, “I love what Khabib represents. We’ve had our differences in the past, I’ve made some quotes about him but there has never been a real beef.” The former light heavyweight king then referred to Nurmagomedov as “an admirable man.” Jon Jones appears to be repenting for whatever he did when he was at the peak of his career.
