Alex Pereira, in only his seven fights in the UFC, is already one of the greatest UFC fighters ever. Already a two-division UFC champion, being the reigning light heavyweight and former middleweight champion of the promotion, the Brazilian is also the first and on;y two-division champion in the kickboxing promotion Glory. Unsurprisingly, Joe Rogan loves watching ‘Poatan.’

While Pereira has moved up to light heavyweight, mainly due to the issues he had in cutting weight to make 185 lbs, he has floated a potential middleweight clash against the newly crowned middleweight champion Dricus Du Plessis. Amid these speculations, Joe Rogan revealed, once again, just how dangerous Alex Pereira is.

During the JRE Fight Companion show for UFC 297, Joe Rogan and the crew got talking about Alex Pereira. The Texas resident recalled watching Pereira in his kickboxing and early MMA career and being affected by his power, size, and style.

“I watched him beat everybody… I was like this f***ing guy’s terrifying. He was just different. Like the power was different, the style was different, hands down, weird movement. But super technical, man… Completely unique style, very technical, and very well thought out. He’s got solutions to everything” he said.

Rogan claimed that the Brazilian has a special and unique method of checking leg kicks, which he showed him and Daniel Cormier. So different and unorthodox was the technique and system that Pereira used to check kicks, that the podcast host was reluctant to make it public, promising to divulge the information to Brendan Schaub off camera.

“He was showing me and DC how he checks leg kicks. And we had a conversation about it. He’s got a special way that he checks leg kicks. It was different than anyone else. He’s got a whole strategy behind it. He’s showing us how he checks and what he does to follow up check. He’s got a system,” he added. And the Brazilian may get the chance to display these skills in another middleweight bout as ‘Poatan’ considers fighting ‘Stillknocks’ at middleweight.

Du Plessis accepts Pereira’s call-out for middleweight clash

Dricus Du Plessis defeated the former champion and Pereira’s friend Sean Strickland via a close split decision to become the new UFC middleweight champion at UFC 297. Soon after, Alex Pereira posted an artwork of himself flaunting two championship belts on Instagram with the caption “Maybe one last rodeo at middleweight” in his native Portuguese, indicating he may be looking to fight ‘DDP’ to try and recapture the middleweight title.

Du Plessis wasted no time in responding to the challenge. The middleweight champion agreed to the fight in an Instagram Story “@alexpoatanpereira I dare you would be an honour sharing the cage with you,” ‘Stillknocks’ wrote. Interestingly, the South African has also said that after defeating Strickland, he wanted to call out Pereira, but since he had moved to 205 lbs, he refrained and called out Israel Adesanya instead. With both fights being as exciting as the other, who would you like Du Plessis to fight next? Let us know in the comments.
