UFC 308 began its first fight with Rinat Fakhretdinov going up against Carlos Leal. The fight went on for all 3 rounds and the judges scored their cards in favor of the undefeated Russian. However, this was a decision that didn’t quite sit well with many, including Daniel Cormier, and his commentary team. According to them, it was Leal who should have won, even though Fakhretdinov believed that it was a pretty close fight. This behavior enraged the Russian fighter and he lashed out at DC and the others. But this only got him branded as a “moron” by Cormier.
During the face-off for UFC Edmonton, a reporter brought up the heat between Fakhretdinov and the commentary team. The ‘Gladiator’ had claimed that it was nothing but bad commentary” during one of his interviews. He said, “First off, it was pretty close; it could have gone either way. But I don’t have any doubt the second and third rounds were fine. So after your words, people will say again that the Arabs brought the decision.”
But DC was of a different opinion. He said, “I don’t know what this dude is talking about. I’m serious. Listen bro, he lost. I don’t care how many times he complains. And that’s the thing, right? These fighters, they go and they fight. It was so clear that the guy lost the fight. He takes the microphone and he goes and sticks his foot in his mouth. That’s the problem! He’s a moron! And he just needs to recognize he lost!”

But when the reporter pointed out that some fighters tended to get upset with what the commentators had to say regarding their fights, Daniel Cormier simply asked Fakhretdinov to take the win and keep quiet. Little did he know that his words would force the Russian star to lash out. As Cormier’s words found their way to Instagram, Fakhretdinov took to the comments and wrote, “Why did it bother him so much😂 he bet all his money 💴 on my opponent?”

Soon after the bout, Leal took to social media and announced that even though he defeated his opponent, he was unable to rise victorious over the judges. It was all because one of the judges, Hadi Mohammed Ali scored the card 30-27 in favor of Fakhretdinov. This extracted quite a bit of reaction from the MMA world. Even Rogan wasn’t left behind.
In his podcast, the UFC color commentator said, “I don’t know what the rules are… But I think the judges for the most part are the same judges. I think they are like travelling judges like the judges they think are the good judges. I think some of them are good judges. But every now and then you get a decision where you’re like whoever the f–k thought the fight went that way really shouldn’t be doing this on a professional level.”

But the rants of the MMA realm seemed to have no effect on Fakhretdinov. The undefeated fighter went on to claim that the fate would be the same for anyone coming up against him. He was pretty confident that he would defeat even the fighters from the top 15 in the welterweight division. With the fire of controversy burning bright, the fighting community lies in wait to see how the Russian’s next fights turn out.
