UFC light heavyweight king Alex Pereira once again proved why he is revered in the MMA juggernaut. ‘Poatan’ defended his title against Khalil Rountree Jr. convincingly and beat his opponent to a bloody pulp. However, he registered this win even after being nowhere to 100 percent! While speaking with the media after the bout, ‘Poatan’ clarified that he had to overcome illness, travel issues, and injury in the lead-up to the fight. But hold up, because there is a new twist to the tale!
It is now being reported that the UFC already knew about the various issues that the Brazilian was fighting simultaneously. They were even ready with another option if things went downhill. How do we know this? It is all thanks to Daniel Cormier who, according to Championship Rounds, said that UFC was aware of everything.
The X page of the media outlet uploaded this news stating, ” Daniel Cormier reveals that the Alex Pereira camp let the UFC know that they may pull out of #UFC307 before heading to Salt Lake City. This would have resulted in Pennington vs Pena being the main event. ‘The UFC said to him ‘That would suck, but let us know how it goes. We have two title fights, we’ll elevate one if that’s what we need to do.”

Alex Pereira saves UFC again
‘Poatan’ has already saved UFC by coming in as a replacement for Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler at UFC 303 and now he did the same again but in a different sense though. Alex Pereira and his team moved to Utah weeks before the fight to help him get acclimatized to the altitude and the breathlessness that comes with being above sea level.

However, altitude sickness was the least of his concerns. As revealed by Amy Kaplan, Pereira faced a series of obstacles. She tweeted, “Alex says he almost didn’t get his passport, he hurt his ribs and got sick and had to take antibiotics this fight, plus his UFC 303 injury came back this camp”. Despite these setbacks, Pereira delivered an all-time performance, showcasing his exceptional resilience and determination.
With his third successful title defense secured, Pereira will likely take a well-deserved break to recover.
