The rivalry between Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones isn’t unknown to the world of mixed martial arts. While the rivalry has been argued to be the biggest rivalry in the history of UFC, the recent turn of events has shown that even rivals can support one another. With the date for Jones’ heavyweight debut against Ciryl Gane right around the corner, DC took to YouTube and defended ‘Bones’.

Previously, Jones stated that the reason for him to move to the heavyweight division was that he lacked fear in the light heavyweight category. Cormier took it upon himself to defend his rival. He claimed it was completely valid to be scared of a fighter. DC stood in support of Jones’ fear while many others, like Chael Sonnen, have dissed the former light heavyweight champion.

On his YouTube channel, DC revealed how important it was to be scared of one’s opponent. He took an example when Jones fought ‘Shogun’ Rua. Furthermore, he gave a bit more emphasis on fear. He reasoned it gets hard when the fear of the other side is gone.

DC said, “I can’t imagine a time where Jones didn’t think to himself, ‘wow, I’d love to fight Shogun’. He went out there and did what he did to him. But once the fear is gone, once that element of how bad it could be on the other side, that thing that make you prepare more and more thorough than anything in the world is gone, that’s a hard thing to deal with. It’s hard to get up for that.”

Moreover, the commentator justified that when a person is scared, he gets better prepared for an event. Since Jones was scared, DC claimed he was going to be more prepared than ever. Cormier said, “When you’re afraid, when you’re ready, when you’re prepped, everything is lock and sink. But if that guy doesn’t make those nerves boil up inside of you, it’s easy to kind of go in the opposite direction. So, I agree. I agree. And that tells me that he’ll be more prepared.”

‘Bones’ defended DC from accusations of bias

Although Cormier once dominated the Octagon, he now acts as a commentator for the UFC. However, DC was recently accused of biased commentary. Surprisingly, when things went south for DC, Jones swooped in to defend the former champion.
