Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier had a storied rivalry in the UFC. Moreover, DC retired in 2020 and became a commentator for Dana White‘s promotion. Fans were wondering whether Jones would like his former rival to be a part of the commentary team for his fight against Ciryl Gane. ‘Bones’ cleared the air on Twitter as he stated that DC is more than welcome to do so. Jones even praised Cormier‘s commentary work in the process.

Daniel Cormier responds to a “matured” Jon Jones

Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier had one of the most memorable back-and-forth wars of trash-talking. Both fighters clearly hated each other when they were rivals. Moreover, Daniel Cormier said that he didn’t have to ask for permission from any fighter to be able to commentate on one of his recent videos on YouTube. He said, “Just for the record, I don’t really need permission to call someone’s fight.”

However, Cormier acknowledged Jones‘s comments on social media and talked about the latter acknowledging his commentary skills. He said, “I’ll be honest with you. It’s kind of nice to hear the fighter [Jon Jones] acknowledge that even with our history, he believes that I could do him justice and do the job fairly because I’ve done it before.”

DC also claimed that Jon Jones was becoming a much more mature individual than before. He said, “It seems now that Jones is maturing. He seems to be taking a much different approach to the build to the fight and how he’s approaching everything.” DC added, “It feels nice for him to acknowledge, ‘I think this guy could do me justice.”

This would not be the first time DC might get the chance to commentate on a Jon Jones fight. He has done it before at UFC 197 when ‘Bones’ made his return after a one-year absence from the promotion. Jones wasn’t too kind to Cormier that night, since both of them were engaged in a heated rivalry. Things, now, look better than it has ever been between the two UFC greats.
