The fate of Jon Jones has always landed him in trouble. Fairly recently, Jones was accused by the attendants of the DSFI (UFC’s new drug testing agency) that he tried to misbehave with them, threatened them, and verbally abused them on March 30. Later, the New Mexico police visited the heavyweight champion for investigation.

The MMA community caught this news like wildfire. Rumors floated around that Jones was arrested and this would seriously hamper the already bad situation of the heavyweight division. However, the truth was that he was never arrested. The UFC CEO Dana White at that time came forward to state that Jones was innocent and he still stands by his words for Jon Jones.

Dana White recently had a conversation with comedian and writer, Bill Maher on his podcast “Club Random podcast.” Down in the exchange about the inaccuracies of media narratives, White explained to Maher the situation when Jon Jones was nearly arrested. White said, “Jon Jones got into some trouble here recently and they said that…”, Interestingly, Maher seemed to have no idea who Jon Jones was as he asked the UFC CEO about him.

White continued, “One of my fighters, probably the greatest fighter of all time, is Jon Jones. He is a heavyweight. He is literally always in trouble. Something is going on, and he’s in trouble. NBC News put out a story that he was arrested, and he was never arrested. It’s just that they don’t even try anymore”

To recall the incident a bit, Jon Jones was in his house when DSFI officials (Crystal Martinez and Jerome) visited his residence for the drug test at 4 pm. According to her testimony, Jones cooperated for the most part but when they asked for the urine tests then he started misbehaving and didn’t cooperate at all. Martinez claimed that Jones assaulted her and her team but the CCTV footage from Jones’s residence tells a different story. After the news floated around that he was arrested, ‘Bones’ came forward to state that he was innocent.

Now back to White’s statement. The CEO further added that the media outlets claimed that Jones was arrested which was complete baseless news. “So, the NBC News said that he was arrested, but he was never arrested. Back in the day, when you are dealing with the media, they would fact-check. They wouldn’t put out a story until they knew it is true. Today, it’s more about being first than being right,” said White.

He further added a tweet on his X handle and claimed that he was a bit rude but he never made any threats. “I was caught off guard by the unprofessionalism and protocol by one of the testers which caused frustration leading me to use some profanity I regret,” said Jones. “However, I want to emphasize that at no point did I threaten, get in anyone’s face, raise my voice to anyone or engage in any form of assault,” wrote Jones.

The date of the summon is yet to be declared by the courts or the department. In the meantime, Jon Jones has released the CCTV footage where he was seen to be behaving well with the officials and as of now, there are no official charges against him in Bernalillo County, New Mexico.
