The biggest name in the UFC, Conor McGregor, has stirred up one controversy after another, ever since he took a sabbatical from the UFC after a huge loss to Dustin Poirier. Since he walked away, McGregor has been seen spending his time and energy shaping and growing his business. He has also spent some quality time with his family.
This year, he was supposed to return to fight his TUF rival Michael Chandler. However, due to multiple reasons, McGregor failed to join the USADA pool, thereby crushing Chandler’s dreams of getting a big-money fight. After a lot of back and forth and a few months of anticipation, UFC CEO Dana White issued a statement saying that Conor McGregor has submitted paperwork for joining the USADA pool and there is a chance that he might be on the UFC 300 fight card. However, in a turn of events, UFC legend Chael Sonnen has a few things to say in that regard.

The whole UFC universe erupted when they learned that Conor McGregor has submitted paperwork to join the USADA pool this year. The fans were beginning to wonder if Conor McGregor would return to fight at all. A lot of people were under the impression that McGregor had turned into a businessman and that he was done fighting. However, this news negates all of that.
UFC legend Chael Sonnen recently took to his YouTube channel, where he spoke candidly on this matter. “So, Conor’s in the pool… and John Morgan asked a – a – the very obvious question. Dana said look, six months in the pool… so what USADA’s saying he’s got to do and that happens to line up perfectly with UFC 300 and… Dana didn’t touch it.“, said Sonnen. Dana White has been tight-lipped about this whole situation and has barely given any insider news – and rightfully so.
“No one’s gonna mind if Conor’s on 300 but I wouldn’t mind if Conor was on 299 or 302.“, he added. There is little doubt that the Irishman is arguably one of the biggest stars of the promotion – even now that he has been away. Naturally, the fans would love to see him – be it UFC 299 or UFC 302. “Conor’s a sellout, and… wherever Conor goes, comes a main event. I do not believe that they will put Conor on UFC 300 because I believe they will close out the evening – meaning the main event will be a world title fight.“, speculated the former UFC fighter and legend.
It seems that Chael Sonnen is doubling down on Dana White being reluctant to put Conor McGregor on the UFC 300 card. But is that really the case?

While Conor McGregor submitting USADA paperwork is good news for the UFC fans, there is bad news to counter-balance that as well. It seems that McGregor’s opponent, Michael Chandler has decidedly moved on from waiting for McGregor to return. After a lot of callouts and given the ambiguity around the Chandler vs. McGregor fight, Michael Chandler called out McGregor’s former rival, Nate Diaz.
Diaz hasn’t responded to Chandler yet but the lightweight fighter seems convinced that this fight would be an entertaining one. He spoke highly of Nate Diaz. But the question is, now that Dana White has issued an official statement claiming that McGregor has submitted his paperwork to enter the USADA pool, what will Michael Chandler do? If the Nate Diaz fight happens, who will face Conor McGregor?

Given the animosity between Chandler and McGregor, there is a real possibility that Chandler might just go back to fighting McGregor if he comes back. As it is, McGregor recently confirmed that his first fight after returning to the UFC would be Michael Chandler only.
