After becoming the UFC welterweight champion, Belal Muhammad has been itching to fight again and defend his welterweight title. Needless to say, the Palestinian mixed martial artist greatly impressed the fighting community with his performance against Leon Edwards. However, when the UFC head honcho offered Muhammad a fight against a strong contender, he was forced to refuse.
Not too long ago, Shavkat Rakhmonov claimed that the MMA promotion offered him the opportunity to fight ‘Remember The Name’ for the championship title. Unfortunately, the welterweight champion was not ready to fight him. Now, Muhammad decided to take a jab at Dana White for his decision.

On the 31st of August, Muhammad took to X and decided to respond to White’s decision to make him fight Rakhmonov for his first-ever title defense. In the caption, he wrote, “Dana be like…” He shared a picture of the UFC bossman morphed as Laurence Fishburne’s character, Morpheus, in the superhit series, ‘Matrix’. In the picture, White was giving Muhammad an illusion of a choice, with both of them being Rakhmonov.
‘The Nomad’ was already offered to fight for the title against Muhammad. However, the welterweight champ needed a bit more time to recover from his fearsome battle against ‘Rocky’ at UFC 304. Rakhmonov quoted, “I’ve already been offered a fight to fight Belal and I accepted the fight against Belal. But unfortunately, he declined to fight me due to the timing issues. He wasn’t ready to defend his belt on that time.”
However, Muhammad’s tweet made the impression that White was all set to materialize a fight between the champ and the #3 welterweight contender. But ‘Remember The Name’ didn’t seem content with the UFC head honcho’s decision.

Rakhmonov, no doubt, has his eyes fixed on the welterweight championship belt. The fighter from Kazakhstan has pushed through all of his opponents to get on an impressive 18-fight win streak, with no defeats under his name. He even decided to snub former champions to get his hands on the welterweight gold.

‘Nomad’ fires shots at Kamaru Usman and Conor McGregor
Kamaru Usman hasn’t stopped dreaming of getting the welterweight belt back, and it’s all because of Muhammad’s callout. After Muhammad became the champion of the division, he declared that he wanted his first title shot to be against ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’. But Rakhmonov didn’t like the idea.
He blatantly refused to deem Usman worthy of the title shot after losing three consecutive fights. Talking to Submission Radio, he said, “Like I think it’s kind of a shame to ask for a title shot after losing three fight streaks. Like in my head, I cannot get my head around it. But it is what it is.” In a social media post, the Kazakh fighter claimed that he was a better candidate to fight for the title and compared his 100% finish rate to Usman’s 3-fight losing spree. Later on, he tweeted, “I will be ashamed in his place.”

But when the discussions turned toward Conor McGregor, ‘Nomad’ claimed that he didn’t even think of the Irish superstar’s return. Needless to say, the ‘Mystic Mac’ has been getting ready to make a breathtaking comeback for a long time now. Weighing in on that, Rakhmonov didn’t seem to believe in McGregor’s victory when he returned.
With every prospect in mind, Rakhmonov seemed pretty sure that he would be the one to face Muhammad next. After all, his professional MMA record spoke loudly on his behalf. Do you think Muhammad should fight Rakhmonov as his first title defense? Let us know what you think in the comments down below.
