The tension between former UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos and Conor McGregor continues to simmer. Remember how McGregor mocked dos Anjos for withdrawing from their fight because of a foot injury back in 2016? Well, the tables have turned. Now, the 35-year-old finds himself on the receiving end of similar criticism after withdrawing from his comeback bout against Michael Chandler at UFC 303, scheduled for June 29th because of injury.

This turn of events sparked Dos Anjos to take to social media, reigniting their online feud. He compared his own 2016 injury to McGregor’s, a comparison that struck a verve with “The Notorious” himself.

A never-materialized grudge match just got a spicy social media update! Back in 2016, the UFC world buzzed about a lightweight title fight between Conor McGregor and Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 196. Unfortunately, dos Anjos had to pull out because of injury. But things got heated when McGregor, at a press conference, downplayed the seriousness of the injury, suggesting it was just a bruise and dos Anjos could’ve fought through it with some pain relievers.

Fast forward eight years and the tables have turned! Dos Anjo made a post to mock McGregor as he wrote, “That’s the difference between me and you Conor, you finally got exposed. You got a pinky toe injury while I got a broken foot.” He then turned the tables on the fans, asking them in the comment section to weigh in on who had the worst injury. This post got under McGregor’s skin, as “The Notorious” responded with a fiery comeback of his own. He reposted his X-ray and injury picture, seeming to prove the severity of his injury.

Recently, McGregor explained his withdrawal from a fight because of injury on X. Dos Anjos, never one to miss an opportunity, saw his chance. He took to his Instagram account and recounted, “I remember I told Dana and Lorenzo Fertitta if was able to walk to the octagon I would fight but unfortunately Doctors put me in the hard cast for 4 weeks.” He didn’t stop there. Dos Anjos upped the ante considerably, practically declaring war by adding to the challenge, stating that he hoped to meet McGregor one day in the octagon to smash his face.

These two UFC legends were supposed to throw down back in 2016, but injury forced dos Anjos out. Remember the trash talk after? McGregor wasn’t exactly sympathetic to RDA’s injury. Now social media is on fire with dos Anjos calling out McGregor and referencing the old “ibuprofen” comments.
