Conor McGregor cannot fight in the BKFC. After all, MMA’s biggest-ever star is still signed with the UFC and has two fights left on his contract. But a member of his team is fighting on the card, to UFC CEO Dana White’s utter bewilderment.
Oscar Willis, a reporter for ‘The Mac Life’ will open the BKFC Spain card on October 12 in a clash against fellow MMA media member Ben Davis. But UFC head honcho Dana White, who seems quite fond of Willis, thinks it’s a bad idea.
“Another fun one. Oscar Willis, he runs Conor McGregor’s website [the MacLife.com], he’s fighting at BKFC on Saturday. I wonder if you have any advice for him?” a reporter asked White at a post-DWCS press conference last week.

“What!” an astounded Dana White said. “Don’t do it. What! Is that why he’s not here? He’s always here,” White asked after recovering from the shock. “Yeah, so he is fighting bare knuckle when Saturday 10: a.m. Saturday, this Saturday. He’s opening,” the reporter answered. And despite his initial hesitation, White seemed to be warming up to the super-fight, even wishing Willis well. “He’s a great kid I wish him all the luck in the world. Hope he doesn’t get his face busted up,” he said.

On finding out that Willis was fighting another media member, White couldn’t help but exclaim “What! Holy s***! All right.” By this point, White was on board, even promising to tune in to the fight. “It’s on YouTube, at 10: a.m? on Saturday? All right I’m in, I will watch it,” he added. And it seems Conor McGregor may be planning on following in his reporter’s footsteps soon.

Could Conor McGregor's shift to BKFC reignite his career or tarnish his legacy?

Conor McGregor’s UFC career is on a steep downward trend. Although he remains by far the biggest star in MMA, he has fought only four times in the past six years losing all but one of them. His UFC comeback too got derailed due to an injury earlier this year and it doesn’t seem like he will fight before at least next year.

This is why a move to the BKFC after he fights out his UFC contract seems to be the most logical one, and indeed what ‘Mystic Mac’ is planning to do according to BKFC President David Feldman. “Unless he’s the best salesman in the world, the talks that we’ve had it’s like ‘I’m fighting here… I’m like yeah, OK. He [said] ‘I’m fighting here,'” Feldman said in a recent interview. And a move to the BKFC will make the richest MMA fighter in the world even richer.
After all, ‘The Notorious One’ would personally benefit if the price of the BKFC shares increases. And what better way to make sure the value of the shares explodes than to have one of the biggest combat sports stars fight for the organization? Not to mention the promotion will pay him a whole lot of money to fight without gloves in their ring.
