The fight between Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic was supposed to be one of the biggest fights of 2023. But that will not be happening this year. Despite that, some sources have told ESPN that the UFC is hopeful that they will eventually set up the fight in the not-so-distant future.

As per Marc Raimondi, Dana White’s promotion is looking to set the fight between the reigning heavyweight champion and the former 2-time champion somewhere in 2024. Moreover, the fight will headline a big card, which will probably have a few more exciting fights on it. However, that fight will only take place after Jon Jones returns from injury. But how long will ‘Bones’ be out of action?

‘Bones’ may be out of action for nearly a year

Jon Jones was involved in a training session recently. He tore the tendon that connects the pectoral muscle to the bone while wrestling. Normally, such injuries take around four to six weeks if it’s a minor tear. However, high-grade tears can take up to four months to heal. So Jones can be out of action for a while.

As per UFC CEO Dana White, Jon Jones will have to undergo surgery to tend to his injury. This could mean that, to achieve full recovery, ‘Bones’ might be out of action for at least eight months. It is certainly a big blow to the fighter and the promotion since he’s only made his return to fighting after a three-year hiatus.
