So Dana White has said it and yes, the UFC is coming to Spain indeed. But when and where? Well, that’s the biggest issue here. The CEO is working on it, as he put it, but there seems to be one big challenge that the promotion is finding it hard to navigate. White claims that it is the only thing stopping him from holding an event in Spain.
Dana White claims that there’s no question that the UFC is looking to get to Spain if they get the chance to do so. However, the only thing that’s not turning out in their favor is the fact that most of the arenas have already been booked for other sporting events. Now, the 55-year-old didn’t really specify exactly which venues he was talking about, but whenever the promotion sees an opening, they will bring the action to the Spanish fans.
“Yes, we’re working on Spain. We’ll get to Spain as soon as possible,” Dana White stated during the UFC 308 press conference. “The problem with Spain is there’s, the arenas are packed up. As soon as an arena opens up, we’ll be there.”

Barcelona or Madrid? Dana White’s dilemma
UFC’s biggest Spanish star Ilia Topuria loves the Real Madrid soccer team, and during the presser, a Spanish journalist asked if Dana White’s thinking about having the event at the club’s home ground, Santiago Bernabeu. Well, the boss claimed that there are two places they’re looking for after double-checking it with Peter Dropick, Executive Vice President of Event Development & Operations at TKO. It’s either Madrid or Barcelona.

“We’re talking to Madrid and Barcelona. That’s who we’re talking to,” Dana White added. Ilia Topuria seemed a little agitated at that because Real Madrid and Barcelona have one of the most legendary soccer rivalries that transcend all sports. Meanwhile, FC Barcelona has also embraced and sided with Max Holloway who was awarded the No. 9 jersey. If you don’t know what that means, No.9 is given to the striker, so could be a dig at Topuria by claiming ‘Blessed’ the better striker? We’ll never know.

Well, before we go to Spain, we see if the champion can retain his title this weekend to take it back and headline a PPV in his native country. His former rival, Alexander Volkanovski seems to believe that ‘El Matador’ does have a chance to win, and it’s important to note that because ‘Volk’ beat Holloway thrice. It will be interesting to see how things go down at UFC 308.
