Tom Aspinall has held the interim heavyweight belt for over 13 months now, yet his fight with Jon Jones remains nowhere in sight. In a perfect world, Jones would have already faced Aspinall. However, we live in a reality where influence dictates terms — and as one of the biggest champions of the UFC, Jones is making his demands known before accepting the fight. His price? The champion is reportedly asking for $30 million, and it seems the UFC has yet to concede. But will the fight happen? Let’s take a look at what the UFC CEO had to say.
As Aspinall ascertained that he is “Bored” of waiting for the fight to happen, the MMA community demands answers from the UFC, and as the patience grows thin, Dana White has come forward to emphasize that the fight will happen but the date of the fight is yet to be announced, “I’ll tell you what I’ve been telling you since day one — the fight’s going to happen.”
He further added, “The fight’s going to happen. It’s just a matter of when now and getting it signed and done. The fight will happen. It’s going to happen. It’s done, but it’s not done. Not done enough to sit right here now and announce it and give you a date. But the fight’s going to happen. There’s no logistics. It’s just a matter of getting it signed.”

After defeating Stipe Miocic at UFC 309, Jon Jones chose not to retire from the sport, leaving the entire heavyweight division in turmoil. With both Aspinall and Jones at the top without a scheduled fight, it wouldn’t be wrong to say that the division is currently stagnant. White has spent months trying to make that fight a possibility but every time he is going back to the same circle.
Last year, in December, UFC CEO Dana White announced that the Jon Jones vs. Tom Aspinall is a 100% certainty, but it appears that things are still dwindling around the negotiations for now. Well, as the stakeholders of the fight are a bit confused about the conclusion, the UFC CEO has come forward to ascertain that the Jon Jones fight potentially changed Tom Aspinall’s life forever.

Dana White believes Jon Jones vs. Tom Aspinall will change the sport for the better
With a career record of 15 victories and 3 defeats, Tom Aspinall is undoubtedly one of the best heavyweights to have ever stepped into the cage. Known for his impressive winning streaks, he has finished the majority of his opponents in the very first round. The only achievement that remains beyond his grasp is the heavyweight title. Well, he does hold the interim title, but that’s not enough for him.
Interestingly, Dana White believes that a fight with Jon Jones would change Tom Aspinall’s career for his own betterment, “I love that in a young aggressive, talented heavyweight, that he actually wants to fight all the best. The problem in this business is you have guys who say a lot of things publicly but behind the curtains, don’t mean it, you know, don’t really want these fights. Tom Aspinall is not that guy. Tom Aspinall wants to fight all the best in the world, and I love that,” said White in an interview with Piers Morgan.

Curious about the answer, Morgan further inquired White what he thinks about Aspinall, to which the UFC CEO stated, “Very good. We’re gonna find out, though. With the Jon Jones fight, a fight like that for a young, talented heavyweight, if he can win, if he can beat Jon Jones, it’s life-changing.” With this confession, the UFC head honcho is certainly keen on making Aspinall his champ but the only roadblock is Jones for now. Given that, when do you think will the fight finally happen? State your thoughts in the comments below.
