The UFC president, Dana White, shook the promotion’s entire welterweight division when he declared Colby Covington as Leon Edwards’ next opponent. Soon after UFC 286 ended, White decided that Covington was the best person to lock horns with the current welterweight champion. However, many turned against his decision, as most of the UFC fighters believed that there were many worthy contenders in the division who deserved a title bout. When the media asked if the boss’s decision would change after the bout between Jorge Masvidal and Gilbert Burns at UFC 287, White asserted that nothing could bring about a change in his decision.

However, things became more complicated when ‘Rocky’ came out to say that he didn’t wish to fight Covington, as he was looking for tough fighters to retain his belt once again. No matter what, it is true that the final decision in the promotion will be White’s. According to the UFC boss, Covington is ranked #2 in the welterweight division, which makes him the perfect choice for the title shot. Furthermore, he reinforced how ‘Chaos’ prepared himself to be the backup at the UFC 286 main event. If these reasons are not enough for the UFC community or media, White has “a million other reasons.”
