The fight between Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall will finally become a reality. The interim heavyweight champion has been asking for a fight against ‘Bones’ for a while now. He even had to defend his interim title against Curtis Blaydes. And even though Jones didn’t want to fight ‘Honey Badger’, Dana White assured things would turn toward the fight. Yet, in a recent conversation with Piers Morgan, the UFC CEO revealed it would be a life-changing fight for the British heavyweight.
When the English broadcaster pointed out that Aspinall wanted to fight ‘Bones,’ White revealed the interim heavyweight champ wanted to fight everyone. However, the thing that impressed the UFC boss was Aspinall’s belief in how he can defeat Jones. Weighing in on that, White said, “I love that in a young aggressive, talented heavyweight, that he actually wants to fight all the best. The problem in this business is you have guys who say a lot of things publicly but behind the curtains, don’t mean it, you know, don’t really want these fights. Tom Aspinall is not that guy. Tom Aspinall wants to fight all the best in the world and I love that.”
The praise White had for Aspinall was astounding indeed. And that made Morgan wonder about his fellow Englishman’s strength. He asked the bossman how good the ‘Honey Badger’ was. To this, White replied, “Very good. We’re gonna find out though, you know, we made this Jon Jones. Obviously, a fight like that for a young, talented heavyweight, you know, if he can win, if he can beat Jon Jones, it’s life changing.”

Well, Piers Morgan also admitted Tom Aspinall had a pretty high self-confidence. Psst… Morgan thought it was chilling. And Dana White was of a similar mind. But he knew it was a pre-requisite to becoming one of the greatest fighters of all time. He said, “You wanna be one of the all-time greats, that’s exactly what you have to have.”
So, what’s the situation like for the matchup between Jones and Aspinall? Let’s see what White said recently.

Dana White confirms Tom Aspinall vs. Jon Jones is the fight to make
On the 31st of January 2025, a reporter from The Mac Life asked White about the potential contest between Aspinall and Jon Jones. The UFC head honcho replied, “Yeah, there’s no situation. It’s the biggest fight we could make. And I know the fans like to mess with Jon and whatever, [but] Jon Jones isn’t afraid of anybody. And Jon Jones will fight anybody. It’s just a matter of getting the fight done now. That’s our job.”
But there are a few hurdles to the matchup. First of all, Jones wasn’t ready to willingly fight Aspinall. There was nothing to gain if he won against Aspinall. But in case he loses the bout, he’d lose everything. On the other hand, Aspinall had much to gain and little to lose. Second, Jones had asked for a humongous amount of ‘f*** you’ money. Well, fighting such a high-risk, no-reward fight does ask for a good paycheck, doesn’t it?

Nevertheless, the UFC CEO wouldn’t let Jones go without fighting Aspinall. White said, “Listen, if we don’t get the fight done, we make another fight.” Yes, this meant the UFC boss was ready to strip Jones of his title if he refused to fight the British heavyweight. And given the praise for Aspinall, the interim heavyweight champion could become White’s new favorite.
