Shockwaves spread across the internet when Mark Zuckerberg anointed the UFC head honcho, Dana White, as one of the board members at Meta. No doubt, the move pleased the UFC CEO, and his net worth witnessed a massive jump up. However, there were a few things that the world still needed to know. And one of these things included the reason why many tech moguls started supporting Donald Trump. Well, take Zuckerberg for example. There was a time when the Meta CEO criticized Trump. But now, he has embraced Trump’s administration. And it seems like White knows why.
On 3rd February 2025, the UFC boss had a brief conversation with Tucker Carlson. The American conservative political commentator asked White about Zuckerberg putting the UFC CEO on the Meta board. But the one thing that caught the world’s attention was the sentence, “he [Zuckerberg] seems like a Trump guy.” And White swooped in to say, “I think what you just saw, not just Zuckerberg, I think you see all the guys from Silicon Valley now that are, you know, having dinner with Trump, showing up at the inauguration, and creating a relationship with him.”
The blame was all on the woke culture that seemed to have scared the majority of the big guns. But perspectives changed when “the woke nutty madness that we went through” came to an end. White claimed that it was the time during the Covid era when a few people still chose to stand against it.

But the repercussions were severe. He continued, “A lot of people got canceled. Lot of bad things happened to a lot of good people during that time. But there was a handful of people that stood up to it and I think everybody is relieved that it’s over.”

Why did Mark Zuckerberg place Dana White as one of Meta’s board members?
In episode #2255 of the Joe Rogan Experience, the famed podcaster had a detailed conversation with Zuckerberg. And during that talk, the Meta CEO revealed the real reason he anointed White as a board member. He pointed out that the UFC head honcho brought out the best in MMA as he took the UFC from a marginal thing niche to a multi-billion business. And that reeled in Zuckerberg’s respect.
He continued, “And I think part of what the conversation that I had with him around joining our board was, ‘okay, like, we have a lot of governments and folks around the world putting a lot of pressure on our company, and like, we need some strong people who are going to help advise us on how to handle some of these situations.”

As a board member, White could receive a base retainer of $50K. With some additional roles like Privacy & Product Compliance or Audit & Risk Oversight, he can earn $10-50K more. It’s nothing short of a golden opportunity for White. But the UFC CEo recently confessed that he wasn’t really interested in the position in the first place. However, he believed that AI and social media were the future, which brought him to accept the role.
What are your thoughts on Zuckerberg placing White on the Meta board? Do you think it was because of White’s close relationship with Trump? Let us know what you think in the comments down below.
