Is Khamzat Chimaev's career being held hostage by his political preferences?

Khamzat Chimaev, one of the UFC’s rising stars, has recently denied rumors about his inability to travel and fight in the United States. In a conversation with Kevin Iole, the wrestler revealed that he can fight in the US. However, there is one thing that he would like to happen before he can actually make that fight happen on US soil. So what is it? Well, the Chechen revealed that he wants Donald Trump to win the November elections.

On being asked whether he can fight in the country, Chimaev said, “Of course, yeah. But let Donald Trump win the fight now. So I will be there.” Well, it surely looks like Khamzat is setting up this condition for all American voters who wish to see him fight in the country. And it surely seems like his words have reached the ears of Trump, as he shared the clip of Chimaev’s statements on his Instagram with the caption, “A great fighter!” Even Dana White re-shared the story on his social media.

It is worth noting that even in a recent conversation with @Shak_Fu, Chimaev expressed his frustration regarding the speculation that has surrounded his career. “I don’t think so; people say a lot of different s*** things… I’ve been to the US and can come to the US, but a lot of s*** things happen in my life with being sick and surgeries, you know. That’s why I’ve been fighting not like before [when it was] all the time, and [with] Abu Dhabi being close to me, I just want to jump in and fight there.” Chimaev explained, making it clear that his absences are not due to visa problems or difficulties competing in the country.

Khamzat Chimaev recently revealed that he has made significant adjustments to his training regime to aid in his recovery from past illnesses. ‘Borz’ ensured that he is in top shape for his return at UFC 308. Initially, both Khamzat and Robert Whittaker were going to face each other in the main fight of UFC Fight Night held in Saudi Arabia last June. However, just two weeks before the match, Chimaev was forced to withdraw due to an unspecified illness. Ikram Aliskerov intervened on short notice to save the main bout. However, he was knocked out by “The Reaper” in less than two minutes.

Once considered one of the most dangerous and active fighters in the UFC, Chimaev has lost steam, with just two appearances in the octagon since his hard-fought unanimous decision victory over Gilbert Burns at UFC 273 in April 2023. Much of the 30-year-old Russian’s UFC career has been hampered by illness and recovery from injuries. However, with Whittaker’s challenge, Chimaev seems more determined than ever. He has left no stone unturned and has introduced significant changes to his training method. Chimaev revealed that in light of his past health issues, he has brought back his first fight coach, Salim Noutsalkhanov, to guide his UFC 308 fight camp.

Chimaev has shown great confidence in Noutsalkhanov’s ability as a coach. He highlighted his experience in training legendary freestyle fighters such as Buvaisar Saitiev in the UFC 308 ‘Embedded’ video. The last time Chimaev stepped into the octagon was at UFC 294 in October 2023. There he faced former welterweight champion Kamaru Usman in a bout on short notice. During the fight, “Borz” suffered a torn ligament in his hand. So hopefully this time he manages to finish the fight fully intact. What do you think? Will Khamzat Chimaev be able to win the fight? Let us know in the comments.
