‘Dana White privilege’ is a hot topic in the UFC currently. UFC fighters, like former Bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling, for example, feel that it is real and that the UFC President, Dana White, is biased towards some of his fighters. Some are of the opinion that it’s just a myth while others agree to it and have their reasons as well.
However, White has always claimed that there is no privilege and that it’s just a rumor that is being spread by fighters who are failing to get their way in the promotion. When Sean O’Malley won the Bantamweight championship from Aljamain Sterling at UFC 292, White made a statement saying that there was no ‘privilege’ and that O’Malley did it on his own. However, recently, a former UFC fighter argued that the biasedness is real.

Aljamain Sterling was adamant about not giving Sean O’Malley a title shot because he thought O’Malley was getting it handed to him, all thanks to Dana White’s bias toward him. However, O’Malley silenced everyone when he knocked out Sterling at UFC 292. Dana White then publicly announced that there is nothing called ‘Dana White privilege’.
However, Darren Till, who is a former UFC fighter, just confirmed that he has been a recipient of the Dana White privilege. In a recent YouTube interview, he was asked about what he thought about fighters backing out of fights with excuses.
“I don’t know. I don’t know why fighters turn down fights. I don’t understand. That’s why – that’s why Dana loves Conor so much. That’s why Dana loved me so much. I never ever once turned down a fight and when I moved up to the Middleweight division, Dana said to me, do you wanna fight your first fight – Kelvin Gastelum had just come off his fight with Israel Adesanya… [inaudible] alright, I want Kelvin, and he’s like you sure you want him? [Inaudible] Dana, give me Kelvin Gastelum, co-main event, Madison Square Garden.“, replied Darren Till. It is not news that White is fond of Conor McGregor and he gets some privileges from the UFC President.
The fighter admitted to getting the benefits of the privilege. “So Dana White privilege I got but like… I don’t know why will [inaudible] turn down fights. Like he’s… I don’t know.“, said the former UFC fighter.
The interviewer then asked him if he felt that he didn’t get the privileges that he should have during his time in the UFC. “I got pretty much – they just got me in with the tough guys every time. I should have got a bit more… no privilege“, replied Till, coyly.

Although some may dispute that it is a ‘privilege’, one cannot deny that certain UFC fighters have gotten along better with the UFC president and therefore, gotten some favors out of him. For example, UFC Heavyweight champ Jon Jones has always been a top priority for White.
UFC Lightweight fighter Conor McGregor failed to join the USADA pool and found himself in a lot of controversy this year. But Dana White had his back. For example, when he decked the Miami Heat mascot, Dana White took a stand for the fighter and laughed off the incident.
Sean O’Malley, who is a close friend of UFC commentator Joe Rogan, is liked by Dana White. Is it really possible that he got the title shot opportunity because White favors him? These are questions that no one has the answers to. And now that Darren Till has clarified that he has been riding that wave, it really puts things into perspective.
