What’s a new promotional trend in the UFC that has been catching on with the fans? If you guessed custom fighter shorts, you guessed right! From Bryce Mitchell’s camo shorts to Sean O’Malley’s pink ones, the Venum era under the UFC has given fans memorable custom gear. And the latest on that list is UFC Edmonton featurette Brandon Moreno!
The two-time UFC flyweight champion goes to action this weekend in the headliner of UFC Edmonton in Canada. And when he does, he will be the latest on a relatively new and considerably long list of fighters to sport customized UFC gear. So, what did Dana White and Venum’s apparel design team cook up for ‘The Assassin Baby?’
His custom shorts are black and red with green lettering, with images of Quetzalcoatl, a feathered serpent deity in Aztec culture. Brandon Moreno himself shared the image with oozing excitement visible from his caption. The Aztec deity was a perfect addition to his custom-made shorts because he had three daughters. He mentioned the same and said, “Let’s go! Gentlemen, for those who don’t know, Quetzalcoatl is the Aztec god of light, wisdom, and fertility too. [Laughs]. I have three daughters. We know what that means…This is so cool. I carry this in my heart. It’s beautiful, to be honest.”

UFC fans are gushing over Brandon Moreno’s custom-made shorts
UFC is adept at shocking the fans with new fight gear and even new event preparations. When it comes to designing shorts, UFC has some pretty unique choices. For instance, there was a hilarious incident where bantamweight star Arnold Allen wanted a unique design on his custom-made shorts. The Englishman even claimed his request for the unusual design for UFC 304 was approved by Dana White and Co. Apart from the extreme design, UFC has made some aesthetic designs, such as Max Holloway’s UFC 300 fight shorts, which had a floral pattern as a tribute to Hawaii, his hometown.

Similarly, ‘The Assassin Baby’ who is from Mexico, received a beautiful design with Aztec representation which would hit close to home and fans are loving it. One follower commented, “damn these are some of the best ones yet.” Another follower reminded everyone of the Noche UFC and said, “Best ones yet, why didn’t they have something like this for Noche UFC?” However, the UFC did have similar designs for Noche UFC because the shorts for UFC 306 featured Aztec deities and mythological figures. However, Moreno’s shorts are simply more vibrant and extravagant.

Another fan chimed in saying, “Custom shorts finally getting good,” while one netizen quipped, “Damn. These are amazing.” Moreno wanted to represent his Mexican heritage and he is the 13th UFC fighter to get his custom trunks. With any luck, he can return to the flyweight title picture with a win over the #3-ranked Amir Albazi. Another follower was floored with the design and commented, “Nah he stepped on everybody with these hardest fight kits yet.”
One fan even compared it with Alex Pereria’s shorts and Ilia Topuria’s. They wrote, “These are awesome! Between his ilias and Alex’s!” Pereira’s shorts for UFC 300 paid homage to his country Brazil and his Pataxo tribal roots with vibrant colours and geometric designs. Topuria’s custom-made shorts for UFC 308 were red and gold with a homage to Spain with a ‘charging bull’ print that solidified ‘El Matador’s moniker. However, now Moreno’s custom-made Venum shorts sit with the top dogs because one fan said, “ These are [fire] dawg.” Do you like the new custom-made gear for the latest UFC event?
