Dana White now loves decision fights—Is this a sign of UFC evolving or just getting boring?

Do you remember when Dana White recently promised never to decide on a bonus before fights after UFC 304 concluded? As soon as he saw Leon Edwards and King Green lose and pull the fight to the last round, all his dreams of an exciting fight came crashing down. On top of that, Belal Muhammad won the title against Edwards. Now, do not be surprised because the boss just gave a UNO reverse and concluded that no fight in the UFC is boring. He was talking to the hosts at ESPN MMA when he explained his reasons for thinking so.

The UFC head honcho said, “I can’t control what happens inside the octagon. We always match-make and try to make the best fights possible. And it’s not that I don’t like fights going to decision. Fights that go to decision are great fights are unbelievable and just as good as a knockout or submission but that is all out of my control that night.”

The UFC boss continues by saying that the promotion tries to do everything in matchmaking. They try to control whatever can be controlled. However, once that cage door closes, the fight is completely up to the athletes. Then he went on to talk about UFC Noche, which is on Saturday. He said, “In a perfect world for me, if this thing goes off the way that I wanted it to on Saturday night, I think that we could repackage this and this could stay at the Sphere and be a show the people could come in and see for the rest of the year.”

As everyone already knows, UFC 306 is a huge deal for the promotion. It is happening at the Sphere in Las Vegas, which is already a big aspect. The promotion has spent $20 million for the production, and there are many things lined up on the day of the event. Since this venue is pretty unique and is not like a general auditorium, fans have a lot of questions. The main question is whether the humongous LED screens outside the sphere will distract the fighters. What can we expect?

Dana White answers the pressing question from UFC fans

UFC 306 is going to be a once-in-a-lifetime event. However, there is a concern that the enormous 160,000-square-foot LED screen that wraps around both inside and outside the venue might distract the fighters. UFC fighters have to be in laser focus when they are inside the octagon and fighting for a victory.

This venue has huge screens that can be seen from miles away. So to be inside the venue with the screens and projections so close to you is bound to be a distraction. Now the thing is, the UFC boss is also not hundred percent sure whether it is going to cause a problem for the fighters or not. Brian Ortega has already said that he will be distracted by the lighting and environments that the screen renders when he faces Diego Lopes.

Have an interesting take?

On the other hand, White admitted to not being sure. “We don’t know [if it’ll distract fighters]; we don’t know until late Saturday night,” he told MMA reporter John Morgan via Grind City Media. On top of that, the massive production has also planned six short films that will be shown. These will show how Mexico contributed to the combat sports world. White tried to sound confident and said, “Does it work? Is it great? Is it awesome? Does it stink? We don’t know, and we won’t know until it’s over, but we’re going to try it.”

Will UFC 306 be the biggest event that is being promised by the boss? We will not know unless we try, would we?
