Sean Strickland is a love him or hate him kinda guy. With his unapologetically politically incorrect takes, lack of a filter, and proclivity to go off on entertaining rants and tangents, ‘Tarzan’ isn’t everybody’s cup of tea. No stranger to controversy, it seems Strickland has picked a fight with the entire country of Australia.
At least that is what it seems after the Australian newspaper, ‘The Daily Telegraph Sports’ blasted ‘Tarzan’ on its front page, with the headline “Will someone, please Knock This Guy Out”. Why does the Telegraph want to see ‘Tarzan’ knocked out?
The newspaper tells us that Strickland has called Australians “English white trash” (Australia used to be an English penal colony where she sent many of her criminals), termed the country’s restrictive gun laws “pathetic”, and has dared the Australian government to ban him.

Strickland, of course, is set to rematch middleweight champ Dricus Du Plessis at UFC 312 this weekend in Sydney, Australia. And there is no doubt whom the Australian crowd would be pulling for in the fight if the newspaper accurately represents public opinion.

And UFC CEO Dana White cannot stop laughing at this. The Las Vegas resident, in fact, posted a picture of this newspaper along with the caption “Australia news paper lol” on his Instagram Story. Of course, White believes that being loved or hated by fans are equally good for a fighter since it means they are invested in the fight. But Strickland wasn’t happy with just slagging off Australia. No, he went on to pick fights with two more nationalities on Wednesday alone.

Sean Strickland goes to war with Saudi Arabia and Chechnya
Sean Strickland, at the UFC 312 press conference, went off on Khamzat Chimaev over the latter’s close relations with controversial Chechnyan dictator, Ramzan Kadyrov, calling ‘Borz’ “a wh**e”. Strickland pointed out that this relationship is precisely why the US government doesn’t allow Chimaev into the US since “people get murdered all the time in Chechnya, and they completely violate human rights” under Kadyrov.

But Strickland wasn’t content with just picking a fight with the Russian region of Chechnya. Oh, no. He then picked a fight with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, where the UFC put on its second-ever card just last week. Strickland criticized the promotion for its close relationships with the Kingdom and felt that it was being “a f***ing shill” by being “buddy-buddy with Saudi Arabia now.”
What’s your perspective on:
Does Sean Strickland's outspokenness make him a hero or a villain in the fight world?
Have an interesting take?
And why exactly does Strickland have a problem with Saudi Arabia? Well, because of 9/11. ‘Tarzan’ asked his phone “How many of the 9/11 hijackers were from Saudi Arabia?” For context, fifteen of the nineteen 9/11 hijackers were citizens of Saudi Arabia although the Saudi government had no part in the tragedy. Safe to say, Strickland isn’t going to feature on any of the UFC’s upcoming Saudi cards. What do you think about Dana White’s reaction to Sean Strickland being lambasted by an Australian newspaper?
