As the anticipation builds for UFC 306, Dana White has promised more than just a night of exciting fights as he’d stated, “It’s one of the biggest sporting events of all time, not just in this sport…”. The second ever ‘Noche UFC’ event held in honor of Mexican Independence Day will go down at ‘The Sphere’ in Las Vegas on September 14.
But with Mexican boxing superstar Canelo Alvarez taking on Edgar Berlanga on the same day, the UFC boss has come out with a message for the Mexican fans. White has recently indicated that the event is going to be a celebration of Mexican heritage and a cultural tribute to the country that has produced some of the biggest stars in the world of combat sports. But how exactly did Dana White bring this vision to life, and what should fans expect?

According to reports the UFC and Dana White have already invested a staggering $20 million plus to ensure that ‘Riyadh Season Noche UFC’ or UFC 306 is a massive success. The problem? The event is reported to be struggling to draw in the fans as the UFC has had to slash tickets for some of the ‘cheaper’ seats from $3000 to $1000!
In a recent interview with ‘KTNV Channel 13 Las Vegas’ on YouTube, the UFC boss was asked about the event featuring a number of short films to make the entire affair a unique experience for the fans watching. As such, White explained, “Yeah, the entire thing is considered a film and then there’s chapters inside this film. It’s basically like I said, love letter to Mexico, I am going to tell the story of beginning of time in Mexico, all the way into the future of Mexico.”
It’s an immersive experience, starting with a film that will tell the story of Mexico—from its deep-rooted history to its exciting future. White envisions it as more than entertainment; it’s a narrative honoring Mexican culture. For those lucky enough to attend the event live at The Sphere, White promises a unique, immersive show. But what about those watching from home? White’s prepared for that too.
He shared that, “First of all, this show, this love letter to Mexico I call it, is authentic. Authentic to the people, their heritage, I mean even the Octagon girls, there’s 9 Octagon girls and they’re all first-generation Mexicans from Mexico. From the movie that you’ll see to the chapters you’ll see to what goes on live inside The Sphere…”

Why such a grand spectacle? According to White, Mexico holds a special place in his heart. His passion for the country and its people runs deep. “Some of the baddest people to ever walk the face of the earth have been Mexican…And I love how family oriented they are, everything is based around family, usually the grandmother is the head figure in the family. Her food and how she cooked and what you ate at certain holidays and things like that, all of that is a part of Noche UFC.” White declared.

With so much heart and effort poured into every aspect of the event, White seems confident that UFC 306 will stand out, even when going head-to-head against a Canelo Alvarez fight. After all, if it wasn’t for a clash with T-Mobile Arena over the Alvarez fight, the promotion wouldn’t even have been able to host the event at ‘The Sphere’.
Canelo Alvarez took over White’s originally planned venue for UFC 306
The first-ever ‘Noche UFC’ event was held on September 16, 2023, at the T-Mobile Arena and featured Alexa Grasso vs Valentina Shevchenko as the headliners for the card. This led to Canelo Alvarez having to wait till September 30 to fight Jermell Charlo at the same venue.

This time, the Mexican boxing icon will be fighting on the same day and at the same venue as the UFC had originally wanted for UFC 306. The reason? Dana White had recently revealed in a DWCS (Dana White Contender Series) post-fight press conference, “We went there last year (T-Mobile Arena). That was our date last year, and then without even asking us, or talking to us, they gave the date away. I couldn’t do the Sphere because I’m under contract with MGM, but because they f—ed us, they let us do it.”
From a $20 million plus investment to slashing ticket prices to ensure a packed arena, the UFC boss is determined not to let Canelo Alvarez’s fight overshadow UFC 306. But will this immersive experience win over fans and make history, or will Alvarez’s fight lead to fewer eyes on the UFC’s ambitious outing? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
