The monumental showdown between Nate Diaz and Jake Paul is just hours away. If Diaz manages to win against Paul in his boxing debut, a lot of opportunities might unfold in front of him. Ever since the 38-year-old left the UFC, the MMA community has wondered if he would ever return to the promotion. As the bout between Diaz and Paul gets nearer, the rumors of his UFC return are also spreading like wildfire. Now, Diaz’s training partner, Jake Shields, has come forward to give an answer to the question.
Diaz left the promotion after his bout against Tony Ferguson at UFC 279 and soon afterward chose to be a free agent. Being a highly popular MMA fighter, it didn’t take him much time to get great pay against ‘The Problem Child.’ Recently, Shields hinted at Diaz’s return to the world’s biggest MMA promotion, but only if the UFC president, Dana White, writes a big paycheck. Surprisingly, Shields also revealed that the Stockton native might even fight the UFC superstar, Conor McGregor, again.

Jake Shields was having a conversation with ‘The Schmo’. During the interview, he detailed Diaz’s return to the UFC. According to him, Diaz is a massive celebrity who has fans all around the world. He further claimed that Diaz should be paid well if he has to return to the UFC. Shields said, “Nate needs to get paid and Dana White knows it, but he’ll pretend like that’s not the case. So Dana’s gonna have to write some cheques if he wants to get Nate back because you know why would Nate go take a couple million dollars to fight in the UFC when he’s getting you know I don’t know exact figures nor would I say but he’s getting a lot of money other places.“
He further added, “So he’s got to be paid right, but he wants to fight in the UFC. He kept terms good with Dana as good as he could… He loves fighting the best fighters and he know he wants to you know he’d fight Conor again. So I think it’ll happen. Ultimately, Dana knows it makes sense. He’ll, he’s not an idiot. He’s going to write the cheque.” Shields strongly believe that Diaz wants to come back to the UFC to fight great fighters, which includes Conor McGregor. He reinforces that it’s all a matter of money, and if the UFC boss is ready to pay him a big amount, Diaz would happily return to the promotion.
